I am a nervous wreck... just found out that I can't get married on June 11th of 2006. We already booked the Carltun (put a deposit down). I am a Catholic marrying a Greek-American, Greek-orthodox guy. We just called St. Paul's Church in Hempstead (which is a Greek-Orthodox church) and inquired about June 11th for our wedding. Guess what they told us?? that we can't get married that day because June 11th (Sunday) is the 50th day of Easter. Don't know exactly what it means since I am Catholic but no Greek-Orthodox church will marry me on that day..... FH doesn't want to convert and get married Catholic (I agreed to that).... What should we do??? We already signed the contract at the Carltun??? Really don't know what to do.... sorry for the post being so long but I needed to get it out......

We talked to the Carltun and they have June 4th available which we will take! they were very understanding...We called the church and they are booked on that day! so we called a church in a city and 'reserved' the date. Do you think it is stupid to have the church in a city and the reception on LI? the church will be at 2:00pm, reception at 6:30pm... Now I have to get used to the new wedding date..from June 11th to June 4th....

Whaaaat!!! Are you serious...why does he have to become a member? You and FH are the ones getting married and need the services of the church. That's unfair.
I was thinking the same thing...but that's just the way it is.

UPDATE # 4
So it is official. After going back and forth with different dates and churches we have a new wedding date; MAY 21, 2006!!
We booked the church.. it will be St. Paul's in Garden City. We had our contract with the Carltun changed also (they had the date).....Now I have to get used to the new date!!

St. Demetrios is Astoria has a membership fee of $200. I was already a member for 2004 - so DH and I had to be members for 2005 - that would have been $400 but since we were getting married January 9th - the lady only charged us one membership since it was only 9 days into the new year. I think the organist and runner and everyhting else was another $100 or $200.
