I am a nervous wreck... just found out that I can't get married on June 11th of 2006. We already booked the Carltun (put a deposit down). I am a Catholic marrying a Greek-American, Greek-orthodox guy. We just called St. Paul's Church in Hempstead (which is a Greek-Orthodox church) and inquired about June 11th for our wedding. Guess what they told us?? that we can't get married that day because June 11th (Sunday) is the 50th day of Easter. Don't know exactly what it means since I am Catholic but no Greek-Orthodox church will marry me on that day..... FH doesn't want to convert and get married Catholic (I agreed to that).... What should we do??? We already signed the contract at the Carltun??? Really don't know what to do.... sorry for the post being so long but I needed to get it out......

We talked to the Carltun and they have June 4th available which we will take! they were very understanding...We called the church and they are booked on that day! so we called a church in a city and 'reserved' the date. Do you think it is stupid to have the church in a city and the reception on LI? the church will be at 2:00pm, reception at 6:30pm... Now I have to get used to the new wedding date..from June 11th to June 4th....

My brother was married in Ozone Park and had his reception in Mineola. There was a 3 hour gap in between and it was fine. Where is most of the guests coming from? To have most come from LI to the city for church might not be a good idea. My brothers guests were kinda split btwn the two.

Hi date twin! I'm GO and we are getting married at St. Nicholas. If you decide not to go with the church in the city, there are plenty of beautiful GO churches in Astoria. (closer to LI) like St. Demetrios and St. Catherine & George. Good Luck
St. Nicholas is very close to where I live! I am probably going to look at Astoria because I want to take pictures on the water in LIC in front of the skyline.
As far as other GO churches, there is a Greek Brides thread. I will try and bump it for you. I have seen other GO churches in LI mentioned before.

No, I don't think it's weird at all, a lot of brides have a long distance between their church and RH. My cousin is getting married in Brooklyn and her RH is on Staten Island, so you're certainly not the only one who's doing something like this!!!

I think there is a new greek orthodox church that has just been built on 25A right next to CW Post in Nassau county. It was formerly the GO church of Glen Cove. Why not ask them? It looks fantastic from the outside. Lisa

There is a Greek Church in Island Park. It's on Newport Road.

We booked the 1:30 slot with St. Nick's and the 3:00 was already booked too. I really like the Astoria churches especially St. Demetrios. It's beautiful!! Try St. Paul's though. I know there was 1 more on LI but I can't remember which right now.

So my wedding date changed again. From June 4 it changed to May 21st. That is the only day the church we like (St. Paul's) has available. All other dates in June were already booked..... I feel like this wedding is not meant to be.... I changed my date 3 times... (I pray it is for good luck)....I feel really sad, .......

Don't feel that way! As long you are not emotionally attached to it, then it's just a matter of conflicting schedules and needing to adjust the date. It's not bad luck at all!!! Look at it this way, you'll be a Mrs. a couple of weeks earlier!!!!!

There are a lot of other churches out on LI - why dont you look into them??

Dont feel sad!! Your wedding is meant to be - these are only minor date issues!! You should be happy that you finally have a date that works for the hall and church!

Great, thank you all.... I feel a little better... now I am concerned about the weather in May..(for the past few years it has been raining a lot)....anyway, I am not going to get crazy.... Can you believe that the church wants $1000 for the ceremony?? member fees and other stuff.... I am very mad at that....

For all of you that read my original post I found out the reason why I could not get married on June 11th.
It is called a Trinity Sunday (the Sunday, Holy Trinity is celebrated). It is always 50 days after Easter. You can't get married on that day. Next year, 50 days after Easter is June 11th (Greek-Orthodox church). My luck. Catholic Easter is a week before, so 50 days falls on June 4th. So if you are Catholic and want a church wedding, you can't get married on that day. Just so you girls know. I found that out the hard way...

We are paying $365 for 2005 membership fees and another $365 for 2006. The with all the other stuff like tip and organist it'll be over $1K. Crazy huh? The worst part is my brother who will be our koumbaro has to become a member too so that's another $365

Oh ... and I am also getting married in a Greek Orthodox Church and it is $1000. I thought it was reasonable. I am sure an officiant costs a few hundred and my hall wanted a few hundred extra...so I think it works out the same if you get married in the hall
