DH and I were shocked by the # of gifts we received for our wedding! I guess bc we always just write out checks.
I mean don't get me wrong...a 30 lb Tiffanys crystal bowl is cool but 500 bones would have been much cooler!
Thoughts?

We got mostly monetary gifts, but we did get some physical gifts as well, which we loved. Some people prefer to give something that the couple will use and remember as a gift from so-and-so at their wedding. Someone I work with knows I love to cook. She gave me our entire pot and pan set and an enormous cookbook that I had wanted forever and know I will have and use for the rest of my life.
And if you register somewhere, it's pretty much saying 'hey, we also like (this stuff) from (this store) and would love this as a gift!'

Re: Don't mean to be tacky but...
NY area people usually give cash (or checks!) but outside of that, it is often considered rude to give a gift of cash. Since FH's family is from Maryland, Iowa, and Louisiana, we purposefully registered for few physical items and made a large Honeymoon Registry hoping that they will choose a 'gift' from that

I can't believe that people give gifts to weddings!!! I only will give money. I feel like gifts are what engagement parties and showers are for!

Did you have a lot of OOT guests? My friends and DH's friends from different states all gave us gifts, whereas family and friends from NY gave us cash. It shocked me too!
