Don't mean to be tacky but...

gift OR cash for a wedding present?!

DH and I were shocked by the # of gifts we received for our wedding! I guess bc we always just write out checks.

I mean don't get me wrong...a 30 lb Tiffanys crystal bowl is cool but 500 bones would have been much cooler!

Thoughts?

New Yorkers usually give cash ... but OOT-ers often give gifts.

did you have many OOT people?

This is very true! My friend's son got married and his bride's family were all from OOT and they all gave gifts. NYer's usually give cash!

this is really true

I was actually JUST having a convo about this with my mother yesterday... she told me she went on our registry and thought that we didn't have a lot of expensive items (we have all our China, flatware, cooking stuff, etc, but nothing is really more than $100) , she told me our registry looked like it was for a shower.

I asked her what she thought should be on it but she couldn't answer, I told her if someone wanted something more expensive they can give cash :)

$$$$$- give the gifts during the shower, need the money after the wedding :0)

i love that the pole is 78-1 cash!

I could never give a gift, 1) bc i dont want to carry it, and 2) thats what all the parties leading up to the wedding are for!

**if I do ever give a gift, its something funny or special that would mean something to B&G, but ALSO accompanied by a check

I always felt the gifts were for the shower and the cash was for the wedding... but thats just how I do it.

Yup, someone else said it.. NY-ers give cash, others give physical items.

I always give cash because most couples are trying to pay back from the wedding or save for a house or something

I never gave a gift for a wedding. I always give cash. We only received 1 physical gift for our wedding.

Did you end up having a Eparty or a shower? I have learned from past weddings I have gone to, to ALWAYS give a check! NO CASH... many times security around the money holder is not that safe.

We mostly received gifts from people who could not attend the wedding. Which i think is fine (I do the same thing usually).

We received gifts a week before the wedding from people who did attend. It was items we needed so i didnt think much of it.

We plan on completing most the remaining items anyway, so we figured its a few less things we need to buy ourselves.
