I have the hardest-headed FH in the history of engagements....here's my question:
Anyone ever NOT done the cake-cutting? Anyone ever been to a wedding where they didn't do it?

Your Dh doesn't want to do this? Its up to you. We didn't do the garter thing or bouquet toss.

Re: Don't think I'm weird but...
I've never been to awedding where it wasn't done, BUT I will say this...
The one thing my DH and I agreed on with the cake-cutting was that we didn't want anyone's good time being interrupted. So, we had the DJ make a very brief announcement, and if people chose to sit they could, but it wasn't mandatory. It wound up with everyone watching...but not planned that way at all...

Truthfully, my fiance is the same way. but we are going to do it,, for tradition purposes. I do not think we are doing the garter and defintely not going to shove the cake in each others faces( death would follow
try to convince him!

I have been to weddings where the dancing was not interrupted for the cake cutting. The B&G just had that moment by themselves by the cake.

Are you doing parent dances? We cut the cake right before the parent dance, so that people weren't interupted twice.

You guys have no idea - I'm marrying the most stubborn man on the planet. He fights me every step of the way - and I think 99% of it is just to rile me up. He thinks it's funny when I go berserk, so I think he just opposes me to get me going.
He told me the other day that if he wanted to wear a maroon/forest green vest with his tux, he was going to, my ivory and sage BM dresses be ****ed. I went bananas (the desired response) and he just started giggling. He's a Class A Ball Buster. But I adore him
PS - No way on God's green is he wearing a maroon/forest green vest. If I have to pull out the Big Guns and enlist FMIL for help, I will.

I have been to a wedding where they didn't even have a cake. The hall was kosher and wouldn't provide a cake or let one into the place. So they had no cake and really didn't care.

Seems like he likes busting your chops. He probably has every intention of doing the cake cutting but likes to see you stress.

Re: Don't think I'm weird but...
I was at one wedding where the bride didn't want to do the cake cutting but her mother made her do it (isn't that always the case? ) anyway - I don't even think the band made an announcement about it. I don't think I'll be doing it either, but not because I don't want to, but because I can't feed FH the cake...stupid allergies

My DH insisted he was wearing a powder blue tux with a ruffled shirt if that makes you feel any better!! He showed up in black as planned!

LMAO Thrilled....my FH is the SAME way... Guess what? He doesn't think he needs to wear a tux at all....he just wants to wear a nice suit!!!!! (he has alot of REALLY NICE suits b/c his best friend owns a very high end men's suit store) and wants to just get a new Armani suit that he saw BUT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ARE YOU KIDDING??????????
He used the excuse 'But it's my day too, right?' and 'I didn't tell you what dress to wear'
ohhhh....I feel your pain!

Rachel, FH is similar... He originally wanted to wear red tie (which groomsmen will wear to match bm's). I talked him out of it, but guess what, he is wearing a tuxedo without a vest or a cumberbund. Just shirt, tie and tuxedo... I am not fighting this one b/c it will be hot in July anyway... But maroon vest LMAO

Mine also said he is goign to smash the cake in his face, and i don't think he is joking.
I told him that if he does I will knee him in the groin.

I have never been to a wedding where they didn't do the cake cutting, but I have been to a wedding where they didn't make a big deal of the cake cutting. The bride and groom just cut the cake and fed eachother quietly while the reception was in full swing, without having a whole song to go along with it.

Yes, I have. My cousin's wife is SO SHY they didn't even have a first dance or anything, not to mention cake cutting!

Re: Don't think I'm weird but...
I had the same experience as EveneEdan where I went to a couple weddings where the bride and groom did the cake cutting just privately. I remember saying where did this cake of my plate come from??? I don't recall ever going to one where they didn't do it at all.

Re: Don't think I'm weird but...
We did the cake cutting and played our 'first dance' song in the background. We told the mc not to announce 'the bride feeds the groom', 'the groom feeds the bride' etc.
We did not throw the bouquet or garter either. It was simple and fast.

I've also been to a couple of weddings where it was done privately. Rachel - don't stress, he's just trying to rile you up again!
