Don't think I'm weird but...

Original post by Thrilled

I have the hardest-headed FH in the history of engagements....here's my question:

Anyone ever NOT done the cake-cutting? Anyone ever been to a wedding where they didn't do it?

What, exactly is a parent's dance? Is that the one where I would dance with my father (if I had one) and FH dances with his mother?

Is it allright for me to dance alone with my brother (who is giving me away) to Queen's 'You're My Best Friend'? It would be weird for FH and his Mom to join in.....

don't ask me why I have so many questions re these things....I guess I was drinking too much at all the weddings I've gone to to remember it all!

PS - Sage, FH goes 'I never signed off on any green and white dresses (my ivory and sage BM dresses) so why should you acre what color my tux is?'

AAAAHHHHHHH

LMAO Especially Shelzyp's response about kneeing her husband.

I have never been to a wedding where there was not a cake cutting, but to be honest, I always ignore it. Unless you are the person standing right in front of the cake, you can't see anything and even if you can, its just a cake being cut. I usually stay put and steer clear of the table where the cake is being cut. I don't think it would be a big deal to nix the cake thing.

My future SIL didn't do the bo-k/garter toss...nor did she do the cake-cutting-ceremony. We're about 95% positive that we're not doing the c-c-c either. We'll have the photographer there to take pictures...but we're not into making a spectacle of ourselves in front of other people. We want it to be a private moment 'tween us.

Easy, girl. No need for stress over maroon/green tuxes. He KNOWS its not going to happen!

As far as the cake thing ... I've also been to weddings where its been done privately. I liked it better when the MC made an announcement, but honestly, it didn't really matter. I was usually on the dance floor or at (not ON, mind you!) the bar. I've missed dessert more often than not, my own wedding included. It was a good thing we had a tasting, b/c I didn't even SEE a piece of cake! Except the piece I cut, of course.

But I like the idea of not stopping the dancing. There's a lot of interruptions, and you'll find that the party flows better if they don't keep asking everyone to sit.

As far as your bro. I LOVE that idea. Very sweet & sentimental. The band may do a shorter version of your song, then call out FH to dance w/his mom to theirs. We didn't do the same song either.

Big Hugs to You ... Breathe when he starts up this way ... you'll probably wind up getting your way. Bat your big browns & make nice!!!

Thrilled...I think your FH is related to mine...between yours in his maroon/green tux and mine practically in khakis and a t-shirt (if he thought he could get away with it )...what a picture.

our hall asked if we wanted a private cake cutting...I did...but my mother was adament it was public...she really didn't want too much out of the wedding...so I gave in...

NO SMASHING CAKE!! that is not a wedding tradition!!! it is disrespectful IMO...the feeding of cake is meant to represent that you will take care of each other...not smash food in their face!!!

btw...I can see shelzyp kneeing FH in the groin...she'd do it!!

My FI likes to think he is wearing a velvet plum tuxedo. I would smack him upside his bald head with my flowers if I walked down the aisle and saw that.

But he keeps saying it to bust my chops.

I dont find it funny

My old boss did not have a cake cutting when she got married. She didnt even make an announcement. Her and her new hubby did a little thing on the side and that was it. No one even noticed and the band just made a small announcement of cake and coffee is being served.
