DQOTD (Dumb Question of the Day)

Why does it take so long to get your gown after you order it? Are they actually making the gown or is it just sitting in a warehouse somewhere, in which case, why in the world would it take 7 months to have it shipped?

some designers do make the gowns to order. others don't

i hate that it takes so long.... and i hate that some stores tell you it takes longers than others for the same dang dress!!

I think that alot of it has to do with the production of the dress and the hype to be honest!

The way I figure it, if I got my dress soon after I ordered it, it would just be sitting around in a bag somewhere, wrinkling, yellowing, and opening itself up to damages (bugs, leaky ceilings, who knows?!)

So instead, they send you the dress 3 or 4 months before your wedding. Plenty of time to get it altered, but just enough time so that it's not sitting around forever.

i lied about my wedding date. Told them it was 4/6 instead of 4/27.. anybody else do this?? i wanted to allow some time for delays.

hmmm... you think it will wrinkle in 3 weeks?? or once the dress in should i tell them i changed the date... even though i am sure they will know.

the order for my dress was put in, in April of this year and won't be coming in until december or January. It's an Amalia Carrara which is one of those designers that take about 10 months to make and ship their dresses

Mine is a private lable too, i got quoted anywhere between 8 (from one place) and 4 months but when i ordered she said if they have one (im assumeing in a warehouse somewhere) they would get it to me sooner, like in a week, but i havent heard anything so i guess it has to be made

I gotta say, I think part of the reason it takes so long is to give it that 'custom feel'.....like to make it seem more upscale or something.

If designers wanted to, they could hire a few more seamstresses and get these puppies done in a month or less, but I think it adds to their image that the dresses are designer and take so long to come in.

Just my thoughts on the topic....

I think it may be hype too. My dress is supposidly a designer who makes dresses for ONLY this store. So then that means they wouldn't have A LOT of dresses to make, right? So, then why does it take 8 months to come in?!?! Is the lady working on it after she gets home from her day job?? I have no clue.

Yes the dresses are made just for you after you order it...they don't just get it in your size from a warehouse where its already done, if they were doing this then it would be alot less. I know davids bridal does this but thats all i know of who does it...everyone else makes the dress from scratch, so that is why it takes long. Some are also made by machine while others are mostly hand-made

don't forget its not just your dress that is being made, they have ALOT of other dresses to make...they can make your dress quickly and work on it non-stop but you have to place a rush order to do so and they charge a decent amount for this.

I prefer for them to take their time rather than rush and do a half A** job

Re: DQOTD (Dumb Question of the Day)

it depends on when you order it and when your wedding is. i ordered mine but my wedding isnt until Nov. 08 so they wont put it in production until the fall or winter. They need to rush the ones who have wedding's sooner. They are all made over seas and it takes 5-6 months turn around time. im in wholesale industry. it takes 6 months to make our goods.
