DRESS CLEANING AND PRESERVATION

Hi everyone, I just got married Feb 25, 2005 and I am finally getting around to having my wedding gown cleaned. I bought my dress from Kleinfeld's and they only recommend taking it to Madame Paulette's. They quoted me $425 to be cleaned and additional fee if I need anything repaired..tears, lost beads etc....they put the dress in a museum quality achival box. Is this too much to spend on dress cleaning? I spent $5000 on the dress and I want to make sure it is preserved the best it can be.
Can you recommend other cleaners on Long Island??
Thank you sooo much!

I would say to bring it to the place that they recommended. I was just talking about this with someone that got married 7 years ago & she paid $500 to have her preserved. I think that is a good deal especially that you want to make sure that it preserved.

If you really want it to be preserved, I'd say go for it! I've heard of Madame Paulette and they do have a good reputation.

Here's a list of some other ones in the City if you are interested in comparing prices:

I've heard that you don't need to have it preserved - just put it in a box with paper to hold the form and open it once a year and you'll be fine.
