dress code suggestions

dress code suggestions

I am getting married on a Sunday afternoon -- what do you think the most appropriate dress code is:

Black tie?
Black tie optional?
neither?
something else?

My future FIL wants Black Tie. Personally, I think that's stupid for a Sunday afternoon (in august, no less), but what do you girls think?

i dont think you should say black tie. where are you having it? i dont think you have to specify a dress code unless it is black tie. JMO

I had a black tie wedding on a Sunday in August but it was twilight. And I must say you should refrain from saying anything is 'stupid' you will get flamed by people for that.

People have what ever kind of wedding they want. If you don't want people showing up in what ever - then give them some direction. If you don't care what people come in then don't put anything. That being said, people will prob show up in sundresses/khaki pants and a blazer for a Sunday at the Fox Hollow in the summer if the invite does not specify the type of dress.

On the bottom of my invites I am putting

'Black Tie Preferred'

That way they know its black tie...but if they decide not to..at least they know to be more dressy....get my drift

I don't think it's stupid at all - every girl will want a different feel for her wedding and some just can't afford to have a Saturday evening wedding.

With that said, I am having a Sunday afternoon wedding and I would expect people to dress a step down from Black Tie. I wouldn't mind men in khakis and a blazer or a suit but I don't expect tuxes. For ladies, a pretty dress will suffice.

I am not stating anything on my invite and will just spread the dress code by word of mouth.

I had a Sunday afternoon wedding and not many people were in suits. Nice outfits but not in suits. I personally don't think its the time of day for that.

I thought black tie was for mostly evening weddings.I could be wrong. Being that it's a Sunday afternoon, I don't see why suits aren't good enough. maybe you should go with Nin's advice and include at the bottom of the invite. Good luck.

Mine is a sunday afternoon and I am putting 'formal reception to follow' on my invites.
I don't think tuxes and evening gowns are necessary, but I would like my guests to be more formally dressed. in suits, not khakis and polo shirts, or work wear.

My wedding is a Sunday evening and i do not want people wearing what ever so I think I may state formal attire prefered instead of black tie. I think black tie is a little too formal

I have been to plenty 'black tie' weddings that started at 4pm called 'twilight'.

Years ago there were guidelines for formality for certain days of the week and times of the day.
