dress issues (long sorry...venting)

HI Girls! I know some of you have read my previous post about having regrets about my dress. Well I took many of your opinions and advice and decided to go and try on the dress again. Well when I called my bridal shop they said my actual dress was in (very early). I was excited and I felt relieved at that. However, when I tried on the dress I had a sense of dissapointment. Don't get me wrong the dress is very nice...but I just don't think it is my dress. I didn't get that feeling. I am now just worried what to do. The bridal shop woman made me pay for the dress in full when she sensed I wasn't entirely pleased. So the dress is mine and I don't know what to do. My other issues with the dress are that it is off the shoulder and it was restricting my arms also it weighed a ton and was pulling me down. It is slightly big in the top and that is the only alteration needed. But what do I do with this dress I am not completly excited about wearing on my wedding day???

Old Post

I will post pics later...my MOH was with me and has to send them to me online when she gets home from dinner.

s to you! if you are sure this is not the dress, then perhaps you should start looking again....maybe even if you try on some others, you may deicde that you love it again too...in the meantime, look for others that will make you feel like the 'special bride' you are supposed to be on your day - you can always sell the dress on ebay or something if need be!

good luck!!

If you are not getting that feeling, I agree maybe you should look for another.

I am getting soo nervous now. I ordered the same dress and I am worried that I might not like it when it comes in. I know there was a reason I fell in love but now I have concerns. Maybe it will make me restricted and maybe it is too heavy. Or maybe I should just stop making myself crazy:)
I agree that you should look for a dress that you love and feel beautiful in. Good luck and I can''t wait to see pics.

It''s a beautiful dress but if you feel that it''s not the one then I agree with the other girls that you may have to sell it on ebay and keep looking. It''s not an easy decision and I think you should go with your gut instinct.

If you really feel like it is not 'the one,' I would start searching for a new dress. You can always sell the original one or donate it or something.

I''ve seen tons of dresses on ebay. You may have a good chance. I know dealers buy dresses off ebay then sell them again, especially if you still have all the tags on it still. You probably won''t get a full return on it, but it''s better than nothing!

Good Luck.

Also ever think of relatering it to have straps instead of off the shoulder or go strapless? just curious

A few thoughts:

Seeing the dress when it is actually fitted to you can make a HUGE difference. I was having horrible bouts of dress doubt when I was looking at pictures of me in the sample (it just didn''t look right), but once I tried it on when it was altered to my size - I was ecstatic!

You mentioned that you''re unsure about the sleeves and the weight. Do you love everything else about it? If so, then take Xelindrya''s terrific advice and see if you can get it altered. A good seamstress can work miracles!

If none of the above applies, and this dress just isn''t The One - you still have time to find your dream dress and sell the one you purchased on eBay. I''m sure everything will work out fine! Keep us posted!

Hi girls...thanks for all of your advice. Here are the pictures. My whole family thinks I am crazy...but I just don't know. Honestly, the dress looks nice, but I am not excited about it. I am so stressed about this whole thing...I just don't know what to do.

I think you look beautiful in the dress. Did you see something that you like better? I think you said that you didn't like the off the shoulder straps...could the seamstress remove them and make it a strapless dress?

Wow! That is some dress! Very princessy, and you look beautiful in it!

IMO - you should give yourself some time to think, better yet, try not to think about your dress at all for a day or two. It is next to impossible to make a clear decision when you're stressed out!

Then, after you've given yourself a bit of a break, give some thought to how You want to look on your wedding day - do you want to be a princess, romantic looking, classy, elegant, modern, sophisticated? What is the image that you want to portray, and what best fits your personality? (So many of the dresses that I tried on got 'oohs' and 'aahs' from other brides and mothers, and even though I looked pretty in them, they just weren't 'me.') Then look at the pictures of you in your dress again, does it fit the image in your mind? If so, and it's just the sleeves and weight that bother you, a seamstress can alter the sleeves (or make it strapless) and shorten the train. If it doesn't fit what you had imagined, then it's time to try on some more dresses and styles. Maybe you'll even come back to the one that you bought, or maybe you'll find something that you love even more - but in any case - You Will Be A Beautiful Bride!!!

I think that dress is bautiful, but I am not the one that has to wear it. You need to be in something that you will not want to take off.

The gown is really beautiful & you look fabulous in it. If you're uncomfortable with the straps, perhaps they can be moved in (up?) just a little so they're not as low on your shoulders. If you're still unsure, go try on a few moe dresses. You may find one you like more, or, you may find that this IS the dress afterall. Good luck.

Re: dress issues (long sorry...venting)

I am just worried that if I go shopping for another dress...I may find one I like better and then I have no clue what to do with this other dress. I only paid 1000 for it...but I don't want to lose that cost. I probably would be willing to sell it for 700...but i doubt I could get that. The dress is a size 4 but the skirt was made to my height...i'm 5'3 with 2 1/4 in heels. I like my dress now...but I feel somewhat stuck with it and I don't think that is what I should be feeling about my wedding gown. Thanks girls you have been really supportive. My family is driving me crazy...they basically think I should just deal with what I have. But they dont understand.

Everyone may say they love the dress (I DO!) but it only matters what YOU want. If you feel that this isn't the one, then go out and look for another dress. It is a very beautiful dress, someone will want to buy it! Take your time and don't rush into anything tight now, and think about getting it altered. But if you still feel that this isn't the one for you I would buy a new dress.

I think the dress is absolutely GORGEOUS! Take a deep breath and try to picture yourself in it once it is altered, your hair is done and your make-up done professionally. Then with the veil, you will look STUNNING!!! If you felt in your heart from the start this was the one don't seccond guess yourself! First instinct is always BEST!

I think your dress is beautiful...but you have to be happy with it.

I love the dress, but I also agree with the fact that you have to love the dress. You have time, take a week or so and don't think about it so much, then take a look again. Or wait a couple of weeks and go try some other dresses on, you may feel that the dress is the one once you start looking around again.

Jamie; I think the dress is absolutely stunning! I love the bodice and the beading. I know exactly how you feel re: is it THE dress?

I never ever once felt that I had found THE dress when I tried on one after another. I expressed those feelings to a bridal attendant at one of the salons I was at. He (he as a flaming queen that sure knew his stuff) told me that not everyone felt that way, and I was being much more analytical about my dress than many who went by emotion. I had very strong ideas about type of lace, bodice, skirt, etc.

It was finally that analytical outlook that helped me decide, and I knew I'd found a dress that made me feel like a bride, and would look beautiful in pictures.

While I never felt that I'd found THE dress prior to the wedding, I was very happy with the way I looked on my wedding day, and quite honestly, I couldn't say what I would have changed about the dress.

You look beautiful in the dress, and will look more so on your wedding day, in full regalia with a glowing smile on your face. Should you decide not to search further, I think you can rest assured that on your wedding day everyone will be thinking you're a beautiful bride in a beautiful gown.

Re: dress issues (long sorry...venting)

I think that dress looks beautiful on you. And I also think it would look stunning as a strapless dress. You should try it on but leave the straps down and see what you think - it can make the whole dress look different, and the straps seem to be what's bothering you. Put on a veil and tiara from the store and put your hair in a quick version of the style you were thinking - then take another look. You may be surprised.

If you really are not happy, then I'm with the other girls who say to shop again and sell yours on e-bay. But just be sure that's what you really want to do before you start looking again. You want to feel gorgeous on your wedding day and if you don't think you will in this dress, find one that will.
