dress preservation...wrapped in paper towels?

Hey all-- I just picked up my dress the other day. I still have to get it fitted and altered and all that fun stuff, but had to pick it up first. When I picked t out (from david's) the lady told me to wrap it in paper towels. My mom bought a bag to go with it and that's what it's in now. Has anyone heard of this paper towel wrapping business? The dress is currently hanging in one of my bridesmaid's closets right now, so I'll need to go over and wrap it soon. Or should I just forget it (the wedding is next August, so I'm quite sure I'll have to have it cleaned before then anyway). Thanks!

I have never heard of wrapping it in paper towels! However, the person probably just meant that you shouldn't just hang the dress in some closet without protecting it from dust and dirt. I would suggest putting the dress in a bag, but leave the bag open slightly at the top, so that humidity doesn't build up inside and cause mildew or stains. It's probable that you'll want the dress cleaned or at least pressed before your big day, but do whatever you can to minimize environmental conditions from effecting the dress. Good luck!
