DRESS SHOP VENT!! (long)

DRESS SHOP VENT!! (long)

I am starting to scope out dress shops, as I will begin looking seriously in about a month or so. I work in Manhattan right near the Bridal Building and we got out early today for summer Fridays. So, I figured I would go check it out. Here is what happened at one of the boutiques there (in movie script form):

ME:
(Buzzing the door to the shop)

SALESGIRL:
(Opens the door a few inches and pokes her head out)
Can I help you?

ME:
I wanted to come and look at dresses.. I'm sorry, is your shop by appointment only?

SALESGIRL:
(Still with door mostly closed and head poking out)
Well what are you looking for?

ME:
(Puzzled)
Um, I am looking for a wedding dress. The door says you sell wedding dresses.

SALESGIRL:
(Still with head poking out the door, nastier tone)
Well what kind of dress?

ME:
(Angered, and starting to fume)
I need a big WHITE dress for my WEDDING.....

SALESGIRL:
(Finally opens the door and lets me in)
Well do you know what style dress you like?

ME:
I *don't* like strapless, I like bateau or boat neck.
(Another salesgirl emerges).

SALESGIRL #2:
(Confused)
Ummmm, well why don't you want strapless?

ME:
Well, to be honest I have a large chest and I feel more comfortable not wearing strapless.

SALESGIRL #1:
(Staring at me like I have a third leg)
Well is your ceremony super religious or something? Is that why you don't want strapless?

ME:
(Fuming)
I. HAVE. BIG. BOOBS. I. DO. NOT. WANT. STRAPLESS.

SALESGIRL #2:
(Brings me hideous strapless gown)
How about this hon, do you like lots of beads?

ME:
Um, listen, obviously you are not listening to me. Thanks but no thanks, buh-bye. (I begin to exit)

SALESGIRL #1:
(calling to me in a nasty tone as I leave)
Next time bring a photo.

-- THE END ---

CAN YOU BELIEVE IT! I was absolutely floored. They were so nasty and not at ALL helpful in ANY WAY!!! I came close to punching her out. grrrrrrr

WOW, that's not something I want to deal with either. Maybe you could try an appointment, so they can expect you and see what happends it still does not justify their actions, appointment or not.)

Re: DRESS SHOP VENT!! (long)

that is absolutely ridiculous!
you would think that these stores would be nicer to us brides since we ar spedning LARGE sums of money at a time in their shops! and could possible spend more with bridesmaids and alterations and mother of the bride.....

it just does' make sense to me.

although - it's a good hting they showed their true colors now...imagine they'd been nice and you actually got a dress there!!! only to find out when the dress arrives that the shop is owned by satan!

Re: DRESS SHOP VENT!! (long)

I can't believe, well actually I can believe what happened to you. Chalk it up to a bad experience and know that you'll never be giving them a referral!

You in a strapless beaded dress is so not you.....as your bridal planner (LOL) if you need me to bust some heads...........

Re: DRESS SHOP VENT!! (long)

Ya know what's even worse....tjose are only salesgirls... the owner should know about this... I say write to them & say you were looking for, like, the most expensive dress in there, & this is how they treated you& you wil never shop there & will tell your LIW freinds not to shop there, etc. You can find another dress shop to get your dress.... good luck to those B E A T C H E S finding another job! (OK, so I am funny, but a little evil, too!)

Re: DRESS SHOP VENT!! (long)

my plan for future shopping trips is to go armed with photos and say, 'don't waste my time by showing me anything that does not look like this' LOL

Re: DRESS SHOP VENT!! (long)

LMAO... I know, those girls can be ridiculous if you are not armed & ready with photos..... they'd have you try on the curtains if they thought they could sell it to you.

OMG!!!

I had a similiar experience in a shop in astoria. I had callled in advance telling them the dress I wanted. They told me they carried it.

When I got there the guy was rude and didnt care what I liked. He didnt even have the dress. He brought out dresses that were so ugly and not at all what I wanted. He was like well i think you will look great in this. UH!!!

I was so mad...

I am surprised my BM didnt punch him for getting me upset.

Their should be RULES that you do not upset the bride and if you do, she has the right to punch you in the face

Rules for being a bride
1. the bride is always right
2. if the bride is wrong see rule number 1.

LOL

One of my BM's is my FI's cousin and she is my mouth. If I dont like a vendor she very happily takes on a BM duty of telling the vendor off.

Nice! Very nice Chippatrid! My girls are cream puffs (no offense, they call themselves that) but my boyz are, well, dangerous.
