Re: Dress Shopping
I almost went alone one time, but in the end I decided to take FH with me. I know most women frown on that, but we are making every other decision about this wedding together and whose opinion matters to me more than his (besides my own, of course). He ended up coming with me another time and has seen me in my dress. He's currently doing his best to forget what it looks like. There's nothing wrong with going dress shopping alone, my only concern would be that I like honest feedback from people who can see me at another angle (I don't feel like you can always get that from the salespeople or others in the store). If you go alone and you find something you love, maybe wait until a friend can come with you and double check you from other angles before you give them any money.
Have fun!

DH saw me in my wedding dress the day we got married and I'd bet $1,000,000 that he doesn't remember what it looks like. 'Uhhh, white? I think strapless?'
Anyway, to answer your question about dress shopping, there's nothing wrong with going by yourself. Just don't BUY without first showing someone else what you look like in the dress.

Re: Dress Shopping
I moved out to Los Angeles, so I pretty much went dress shopping alone. I don't know if it is a west coast thing or what but a lot of the brides were dress shopping alone. The salon at which I ended up getting my dress only allowed one appointment at a time in the store, so the two sales girls, who were super sweet, gave me their undivided attention and good feedback.
I waited until my sister came to visit to actually buy my dress.
