dress shopping makes me feel horrible about myself

dress shopping makes me feel horrible about myself

I've already went twice, but I dont even want to think about going again.

I know the sizes run small, so I'm going to wear a bigger size, but I'm just so obsessed with the number on that dress.

I worked so hard to lose weight, and I feel like I should be wearing a size 4 at my wedding, not a size 8.

I'm seriously paranoid about dress shopping again because I dont want to have a breakdown amount of my weight.

How do you deal with the 'off' sizing of the dresses?

i know how this feels i was in a wedding party and the bride picked out a mermaid dress. I am usually a size 10 12 and they ordered me a size 20 . the girl at the bridal store was so obnoxious i left in tears. it definitly hurts your self esteem.

oh yeah, i've had to deal with that also. For my friends wedding, the BM dress she picked out was sooo off with the sizes too! I ended up getting the top in my normal size, but the bottom was marked 2 sizes larger than I actually am. I was so disturbed at my apparent big butt, but then i just reminded myself that it's not my body, it's the stupid dress. Try not to think about the 'numbers'. It's better to get something that FITS rather than a gown you feel like your busting out of, just because you didn't want the larger size. Seriously - the dresses can be sooo off. But i know it's discouraging to see.

A size 8 is so tiny in wedding dresses! I am normally a 4 or a 6 in a dress and they ordered me a 12 dress. It was big when it came in but the sample was an 8 and I couldn't zip it once I got up to my ribs. I'm sure you look fabulous and are just being too hard on yourself.
And remember, its better to order too big than too small. You can always take it in. You are not the number so don't let it own you. It's only a number...

im usually a size 8/10 in dresses. they ordered a 14 for my wedding dress. i was like w T F??? but they reassured me its just a number. we'll have to wait and see. i just let it go. i know these dresses look good on me and i dont care what fake number is associated with it.

I'm normally a size 8, and the dress I ordered was a size 8. It was a little snug in the waist and hips, but the top was massive because I'm flat as a pancake. They reassured me they could let the seams in or out as needed, and an 8 would be fine.

I definitely wouldn't freak over being a size 8!

I wear an 8/10 usually and my gown was a 12. it depends on the designer and the dress. Stop thinking about the size and think about how you look and feel in the dress itself. good luck.

I definitely understand how you feel. I am a size 2 in regular clothes and I was like a 6 or 8 in all of the dresses that I tried on. It definitely doesnt make you feel good about yourself but it's just the way the dresses run!!

I had to order a size smaller than I usually wear.

It surprised me.

It was an Alfred Angelo plus-size dress.

Perhaps his sizes run big?

Don't even look at the size/number..when you find a dress you love and looks great on you, that's all that matters..those sizes are WAY off..

I agree it's all about finding the dress you love.. The first time I went dress shopping I felt like a big fat cloud the second time around I felt I was much happier.

Here's a hug!

I can relate. I was once a size 22 and have been SO happy that I 'slimmed' down to a size 12 and have maintained it for 2 years. I'm 5'8 and I thought I had another 10 pounds to lose for the wedding.....

then....

the dress shopping. The sample size 14 was too small ***. It hurts to think that I may be ordering a 20....but that's just the nature of the business. I met a girl who was a size 2 and ordered an 8-it happens. That's why we have our LIW girls to lift our spirits for times like this.

Okay, I don't get it.

Its just a different number scale. while some designers use the numbers we are used to like if you always buy a size 6 no matter where you shop some designers size their dress according to that size 6 to their dresses but other designers use different numbers.

If the wedding dress sizes went by letters you would know no different.

Example:

Size 2 = size M
Size 4= size N
Size 6=size O
Size 8= size P

So what? You are a N in the Wedding World. But instead of letters they use different numbers. A wedding dress size 8 is equal to a regular size 4 at Kolhs. Isn't this a good thing?

I'm a size 2-4, and my designer runs very small... I fit perfectly in the sample dress which was a 10! we ordered a 12 just in case i gained any weight in the following 9 months, and while it did need to be taken in quite a bit (i lost a little weight) i couldnt have gone any smaller than the 10 or 12....

do i look like a 12 here? nobody knows what is on the label inside your wedding dress, dont let it bug you too much

dont be a number girl...numbers mean nothing...no one will even no the number but you and the store. Its all about how you feel and look in the dress.

Dont let the numbers get to you. Bridal dresses always run small. Im a size 6 normally and they ordered me a 10. My girls BM dresses were also ordered a few sizes bigger than they normally wear. I think bridal shops go off a different size scale than normal clothes so please dont let it deter you from one of the happiest times of your life.
