Dress Shopping---QUESTIONS

Okay, so I am going Wedding Gown shopping for the 1st time on SATURDAY... I have an 11am appointment at Fantasia Bridal in rocky Point...
I have some questions for you ladies who have already been through this.....

1. What kind of undergarments should I wear? I mean obviously for the day of I am going to buy a very nice corset type underwear.. but i don't have it yet... so does it matter what i wear when I go???

2. Are most dresses the over the head thing? ughh I will never understand that.. esp with the way we are all. into getting our hair done.. but that's besides the point??

3. how long were you at each place?

ANY ADVICE??????????????????????????

I appreciate it all

Yay!!!!! This is going to be a fun and axciting experience for you!!!

They usually provide corset and those hoop skirt things. I would call before and make sure they have them for you. Also, wear undies that cover the a$$. I wore a thong and was embarassed because the lady help put on the dress for me. I felt bad for her having to look at my a$$. I would have worn boy shorts.

They usually do put the dresses over the head for you. If you put it on yourself- you can do whatever you want.

I was at each place for about 2 hours. It can be a legnthy process!

My advice to you is keep an open mind. Try everything on! You never know what you can fall in love with! Good luck!

I wore a bar that had convertable straps, but they are sewing cups into my dress so I will not need a bra. I didnt use the thing to make the dress puffy cause I didnt want a puffy dress. Whether it goes over your head or you step in depends on the type of dress it is. Most of the dresses I tried on, I stepped into. I also wore a thong, but if you don't want someone looking at youe behind all day then wear boyshorts or something. Its a lot of fun, and you might try on the same dress 2 or 3 times. but, when I tried on the one I knew it. Some girls know some don't, but if it looks amazing on then why look any further. Have fun !!

When I have gone I didn't wear any special underwear just what I would normally wear.

So, no it doesn't matter what you wear.

Most dresses are over the head.

It all depends on how crowded the place is and how many dresses you try on.

I wore boy shorts and a strapless white bra. thank GOD cuz the lady at the store was in the dressing room with me THE WHOLE TIME! lol i tried on mostly big poofy dresses so i had to STEP INTO them as opposed to having them go over my head.

I wore boy short underwear and a regular bra, they gave me a bra to wear with the dress. Some dresses were step in, and some were over the head.

You'll be fine!! Relax and have a good time!

You should be there for about an hour. Depending on how many you try on.

Also try on a VARIETY of dresses since its your first time. You never know what looks best on you until you try it on!!

Take lots of pictures Kristen!

when I went dress shopping the 1st time was kind of by accident lol... We went to look at something else and the next thing I had a wedding dress on. But something that I can recomend is have your hair wash and blow... I personally feel prettier when my hair is down and it gave me a better idea of the entire look.

my dress wasn't put over the head. I felt stupid bc i had the dress on a hanger and i tried to put it over my head and i couldnt do it, the salesperson walked in and helped me and told me it doesnt go over my head. She had to lay the dress down on the floor and i had to get into it like that bc of all the layers underneath, i seriously had to jump into my dress lol

Have Fun! I just wear a strapless bra. They usually have bra's at the stores but it just really skeeves me out to know that other boobs have been in a bra i'm wearing! All the dresses I've tried on went over my head. I was there for about an hour maybe a little more.
HTH!

I went not to long ago.
Here's a list of advice.

Skip:
Make-up
jewelry (not including e-ring I kept mine on)
wearing a thong.

Definitely:
1-wear good undergarments
2-strapless bra
3-someone to take pics if they let u
4-pen and paper in ur bag in case u can write down a designers name and item number while nobody is looking to see if u can find the dress cheaper on line.

Even if it is the ugliest thing on the hanger try it on. This lady came out with a dress me and my mom almost died it was so ugly. Once it was on it was so pretty it was on my top 3 list. TRY EVERYTHING.

I tried 18 dresses the 2nd one I tried was the one my mom bought me couldn't stop thinking about it. But I tried everything and had a top 3 to pick from. Just have fun don't fall in love to quick you can always go back.

Re: Dress Shopping---QUESTIONS

Ohhh how exciting!!!!!!

1. I wore a convertible strapless bra (although never took the straps off) and some booty shorts that covered most of my ***... I had only the consultant in the fitting room with me so I would have been a bit uncomfy if i had a thong on

2. ALL the dressed I tried on were over the head and it was sooo annoying... I coulda stepped into all of them but instead I found myself wriggling through to find the impossible opening...

3. I was at RK Bridal for about 2 hrs... Couldnt even tell you how many gowns I tried on...

ETA: Try to narrow down what style dress and neckline look best on you... I'd say spend the day doing just that this time... Then next time, try ohhh maybe 1000 dresses with that same style...

I loved where I got my dress...I got mine at Macys in smithaven mall (demetrios). I felt so comfortable with the woman helping me. I would say that is the biggest thing. Go to a place where you feel comfortable and if you don't go somewhere else.

Second wear something comfortable and bring and/or wear a strapless dive.

and yes be ready for the bridal dive!

Re: Dress Shopping---QUESTIONS

I went to two places, one Priscilla of Boston and I had on a convertible bra and that was a good thing.

The other, Bridal Salon in Manhassett and they put the corset on. HOLY cow I loved that thing. I could have pranced around all day, things were just lifted, nipped and tucked!

Funny thing, at the Bridal Salon, she had me step into every dress. But she also kept telling me to keep the heels she gave me on. And I wear high heels but those suckers were like 4.5 inches and I kept habing to balance!

My one piece of advice. Not sure who you are going with or how many people but when you put the dress on, just take a deep breath and look in the mirror for a second before you go show the world and people start balking their opinions.

Just my two cents!!!

Re: Dress Shopping---QUESTIONS

im going with my mom and my grandmother!!! so I am hoping that they can help me a bit too!!

also I have another question... I know from being a bridesmaid 10000000 times.. lol... that some of the SAMPLE DRESSEs.. are like size 8...and i couldn't get into them....

what happens if the sample size is too small..... how do you get it over your head and onto your body??

LORD... can you tell im paranoid and nervous lol

Re: Dress Shopping---QUESTIONS

Sample sizes are 8-10 they will fit over your head and on your body, they usually close it with bungie cord and then it stays up, That way you can see it on your body. Depending on what store you go to, they may have several dresses in several sizes. And then you don't have to worry. The higher end stores only have one or 2 samples of a dress. They are truly couture gowns and when you order, the dress is cut and made for you.
