Dress Size scam?

Dress Size scam?

Anyone else find that bridal places usually try to put you in a dress size 2 sizes to big?? I am very straight and usually a size 4 in dresses and they proposed for me to try on size 8 and 10 bridal gowns? I am tall thin, no hips, 34B.. nothing exciting where they would need to pull in anything.... Is this just a way for them to make a fortune on alterations??

Even when I was a bridesmaid I remember Adriennes in Islip doing this and arguing that they ordered the wrong size for me when they took my measurements - then hit me up for alterations $$

LOL its not a scam, wedding dress sizes are different than regular street clothes sizes...so yes if youre a 4 normally, wedding dress would be maybe a 6 but more likely an 8. Its not that they order you a dress thats alot bigger bc and 8 is the same size as a normal non wedding size 4 dress would be so its not bigger. They just have a different sizing method thats it

yeah, i find that too, especially with the bridesmaid dresses. One of my BM tried on a size 10 dress, then wanted to order a size 12 because it was a little bit tight, the lady wanted her to order a 14. She stood her ground and ordered the 12. She could have worn the 10 if she wanted to.

Hhmm...that's odd...I'm a size 4 too in regular clothes, but my measurements matched up close to size 4 in my wedding dress aswell. Since my dress has a corset back and it would be easier to adjust if need be, the lady insisted I order a size 4.

I think it depends on the designer though too...I think you should look at what measurements match each numerical size and go from there.

Sometimes it will depend on the designer too. It really does a number on our egos, that's for sure. Like women are self conscious enough

really...i am a size 4 and i ordered a size 8 and according to the salon's chart it's an exact fit for my measurements. i know the sizes are different, pros always say that but the designer could have something to do with it.

where did you get your dress? i know davids bridal does regular street clothes sizes, but most are very different, youll see most girls on here say this

my dress sample was a 12 but a bit big on the top. otherwise when I got measured the size chart based on my chest =8 my waist =10 and hips =14. So dont worry about the number

the sample i tried on was a 10 and it fit me really well, but they ordered me a 12 since the samples are stretched out from people trying them on. from my experience, i don't see a scam.

Yeah with me i had to get even a size bigger bc of my chest, its easier to take it in than to add fabric to it. So this way it will fit perfect on my chest and the waist they can take in

Adriennes s*cks!! I highly recommend that no one uses them!!! My wedding was in July and I am still dealing with them and the BBB! I can go on forever about them and how much they s*ck, but I'll list just a few.
1. They def ordered the wrong sizes for all my bridesmaids. They ordered one girl a 10 when she is normally a 4 (of course the dress was HUGE), and this happened to 6 out of 7 BM and both jr BM.
2. They misquoted 3 of my BM so their contract was drawn up and stated that they owed only $50 more when they picked up the dress- time to pick it up and they claim they owe over $100. There was no talking to them about this. The owner Maryanne was EXTREMENLY rude and told me one month b4 my weding that I should go else where to get my dresses and she'll give us our deposits back- she knew it was too late to go anywhere else B*TCH!!! (not sure of the exact figures money wise but I'll have it right when I fianally do my review- so I guesstimated)
3. My dress was supposed to be ready in April. They even told me it was in shipping. Then it wasn't, then it was. Nonetheless-my dress finally arrived the beginning of JUne (or so they say). After all the problems (the above doesn't even touch upon them) we decided to take every dress out of there!!! When I took it to a seamstress she told me I was sold a sample!!!!!! We paid for a brand new dress!!!!!!! She said it was taken in already on the sides and it was DIRTY!!!!

I can go on and on...my advice don't go to Adriennes- and I know of other people who have had problems as well!

But back to the original post- I do believe they SCAM us!!!!

Yes, bridal gowns and BM dresses sizes are smaller than street clothes sizes, so you will probably need a larger size than normal. But scams may still occur, as with the pp whose BM was pressured to order a dress four sizes larger instead of two. Ask the shop to show you the manufacturer's size chart and see if your meaurements correspond.

I know what your talking about - but i did not have that experience when i went to Macys. My measurements actually said i needed a bigger size - but the sample was a 10 and fit perfectly.

no its not that they tell you to get a bigger size but a 4 in street clothes is about a 6 or 8 in a wedding dress size, meaning they are the same size.

i gues my dress runs differently then, because i was the same in street size and wedding gown.. i didnt have to go up any size that i normally am.

it depends on the designer, a majority their sizes are different. From what i know davids bridal uses regular sizes and i forgot who else...I got measured and my waist measurement was 27 so not like a size 10 is what would equal a size 27 waist, well i tried the size 8 sample and it fit but bc my chest measurement is 37 i would have to go up in size so it can fit well and then just take it in. Either way doesnt matter bc my alterations are capped and i need to get it altered regardless, for the fact that my measurements go from 37 to 27 i wont find a dress that is the right size to accomodate it, i have this problem with ALL dresses. So the waist would be taken in no matter what size i got, plus im 5'2 so it would need to be altered, they dont profit from ordering me a size larger its the same thing either way for them

its good that it is capped, i think mine is too just incase.. my problem was they had no smaller dresses so they had to clip everything.. so they went by the size chart and i got the size 2. im not sure what ill have to get altered. i hope its going to be long enough becuase im pretty tall.

Yeah i would hope they took your height into consideration, it should be fine though

I had a problem there too in the past. She ordered the dress like 3 sizes too big even though I argued it and then it came and you could have made a second dress from it. When they went to alter it it looked silly because so much had to be taken in.

I think some of its a scam. Only because I ordered a MOH dress for my sisters wedding and even though the chart said one thing, I argued it and made her (another place) order it in my street size and when it came in it fit perfectly. The only thing that I needed was a hem!
