Dressmaker called me fat!!

I had my first fitting of my dress thats being made for me-- i had muslin fittings before-- so she says in spanish to the store owner 'gordita' - which i know means fat girl-- The owner then asks my mother if I gained weight!! First off, I havent-- second - how rude! I am not fat and it totally ruined the experience of today. THe rest of the fitting I felt like I was going to cry

That's terrible. First off, to speak about you in another language is rude, and to intentionally do it to insult you without you knowing is worse.

I had a friend who used to call her husband gordita as a term of endearment. I thought that was weird but I just found this online too:

The word gordita is also a Spanish term of endearment used to describe an attractive woman or girl who is curvaceous or heavy set.

I know it's not a consolation but maybe she was looking for a less mean way to say it, and didn't know what how to say it in english without offense.

As far as I'm concerned, they shouldn't be saying anything like that at all and I'd be just as upset as you.

Question... Is there anyway you can take your business elsewhere? Phyllis at Gownfind is raved about and she does alterations on dresses even if you don't buy them with her. I bought mine from David's but I have an appointment with her next week for alterations.

If this is going to be on your mind the next time you go in there too, I would say something. Maybe request someone different to help you?

Unfortunately, she was talking to the owner and the owner was the one who asked if i had gained weight...but i will tell her what a miserable experience she has made this for me-- once i pick up the dress ]

That's one of the most horrible things to say to someone!! It's amazing how inconsiderate people can be. Hopefully you can shake it off, know that you are beautiful and focus on your wedding!

(I had a girl tell me 'Amanda you put on some weight' after not seeing her for about a year.... in front of a group of people!... never ceases to amaze me!!!)

That's very rude. Just ignore it. They do this for a business and it's just another client to them. For us, each of these events means something. So don't let ignorant people take that away from you.
