Dumb Questions about going for food tasting

Dumb Questions about going for food tasting

I was wondering when you usually go for a food tasting. Does it matter, does the rh prefer you go at a certain time prior to the wedding?

Also, can you ask to bring your parents or is it rude to have 4 people instead of just 2? Or, is it expected?

I'm just curious I've never heard about anyone's experience.

Thanks

Have you booked the place yet?

If you havent I would suggest only you and the FH go to the tasting. I'm sure the two of you would be just fine on your own...

we went with my parents and sister and FH's father... so 6 all together...if they want your business they shouldn't have a problem!

I'm curious too...I know my RH said 6ppl were allowed at the tasting and my friend who got married had 6ppl (her, FH and both sets of parents.), but I'm sure it varies by RH.

We just sent our invo's to be printed and my mom keeps hounding me to make a tasting date to set the menu's...but I can't remember when the RH told us to schedule it!

My hall wouldn't do our tasting until about 2 months before our wedding. Not sure why, maybe certain menu items are seasonal? I brought my mom & stepfather, they had no problem with that.

Edit- before booking, we did pay to eat dinner in the halls restaurant (it was a country club, so they have a separate restaurant for golfers, etc) as a tasting since it was essentially the same food.

I was told the tasting would be 6 weeks or so before the wedding. Not sure why. . and they told me four people. I think just ask them. At least if it's closer you will have no time to second guess yourself.

We actually did a tasting before we booked -- to make sure we liked the food. My FH and I brought my parents and my aunt. The RH didnt mind. In our case, they just made a few dishes and we shared...so we could hae brought 20 people if we wanted...but we'd only get 1/2 a bit each. : )

You can bring your parents...its not rude. It was just dh and I. Our hall just told us to call them when we are ready, and tell them how many people. I should have brought more people..they cooked for 6!! We did our food tasting before we booked the hall though!

You are going to LOVE your tasting at the thatched cottage! We went before we booked, and man did they wine and dine us! If you already booked, I'd suggest waiting until the spring to go to the Thatched Cottage. We went in June, and we had our tasting outside on the gazebo, just me and DH (then FH). It was very romantic. They gave us champagne and so much food. At the same time our tasting was going on, there was a table of 6 having a tasting at a table by the water. You don't really taste all the entrees though. They gave us a million hordourves (I'm too lazy to look up the spelling) and each of us one entree ( we didn't choose, they just gave us 2). Have fun!

We asked first and they said we could bring people. We brought other mothers and my sister. So there was 5 of us. I'd let them know just to make sure theres enough food!

We did our tasting before we booked (we had them write it in the contract that we could get our deposit back if we didn't like the food w/in 24 hours of the tasting-we are that picky about our food lol). We were able to bring 4 other people with us. It shouldn't be a problem at all to have your parents come with you Call them and ask them how the tasting works if you are booked and make sure they write in your contract that you can have your money back if you don't like the food- and if you are already booked then ask them when the next one is.

Our rh told us to go around the same season as our wedding so the menu will be the same. We went with 6 people (both sets of parents).

Re: Dumb Questions about going for food tasting

FH & I went for a food tasting before booking, then a few weeks before the wedding when we pick the menu we will bring our parents with us to join in with tasting the selections we've made.

It isn't rude to ask to go for a tasting before putting money down. Food is a big part of a reception, and you want to be sure the food is good before signing a contract and giving someone hard earned money. I would probably just bring your FH with you so you two can decide if you like or dislike the food & then go from there with including other people. I know we were allowed to bring anyone we wanted with us for the first tasting before booking.
