So my mom and FMIL are planning on throwing us an engagement party, and have asked us to work on a guest list. When I went over it with my mom, she said 'How many kids?'
We're only planning on having three kids at the wedding (my own son, and his two cousins from CA that I'm letting be his 'guest list'). I was under the impression that you shouldn't invite anyone to a pre-wedding party that's not invited to the wedding. Does this apply to kids too? My mom thinks its okay to have all the kids at the e-party since its much more casual, but I'm afraid people will assume that the kids will be able to come to the wedding as well, and I don't want anyone to be offended by anything. Thoughts?

Re: E-party Invite Etiquette
FH has a huge family and lots of younger cousins. We decided to have them all at the eparty but are having an adult only reception. I think for adults that are giving you a gift, if you invite them to the eparty than you must invite them to the wedding. For kids it's a little different but I only kept it to family, not friends kids. We have been trying to stress at family functions that our wedding will be 21+ HTH

Re: E-party Invite Etiquette
we are having an adult only reception ( the only kid at the ceremony is my nephew and he is literally walking down the aisle to my sisters MIL and being taken out of the room) i invited my cousins daughter to the e-party but not the wedding. if your e-party is casual and your wedding is not, then it is fine to have kids invited to one and not the other. just be prepaid to tell people when they ask, that their children are not invited to the wedding.

Re: E-party Invite Etiquette
They say whoever is invited to the eparty is invited to the wedding. Do what makes you comfortable. If its a casual party I don't see it being a big deal. I invited a lot of people from my previous job to my eparty that I don't talk to. I am not inviting them. I don't know if its rude but I don't talk to them to my surprise.

Re: E-party Invite Etiquette
Your right...whoever you invite to the engagement party is who you invite to the wedding. However, in my own experience, I had an engagement party and i told my dad that i do not want any kids at my wedding but he insisted I invited them to the engagement party. it was 5 couples that i invited their kids and only 2 couples brought theirs, consisting of 3 kids all together that were at my engagement party. Then again, the people i invited with their children were my step sisters and my FH sisters. They are actually happy that we are not having kids at our wedding or in our wedding because it just makes things easier. So i really wouldn't stress it.

Re: E-party Invite Etiquette
We allowed kids at our E-Party and wrote the invite to Mr. & Mrs. Smith and Family.
We aren't planning to have children at the wedding.

Re: E-party Invite Etiquette
Thanks for the advice everyone! It's not that I have a problem with having the kids, I just don't want to offend anyone down the line. I think we'll have them all, and just make sure the word gets out that its an adults-only reception.
