No, he's in no debt from purchasing the ring. He paid cash for it - but not so as to keep the price a secret. He pays cash for everything while I use Amex and pay off the bill when it comes.

Re: E-Ring Debt???
After we got engaged, FH finally told me that all the overtime he was doing was in order to pay for the ring. I felt bad about it because FH was working every evening until 8pm and going to work half day on Saturdays. Then I realized that I was the one that had to get up early on Saturday to drop him off to work. . I didn't feel bad about it because he planned I think he paid for it using his credit card and then paid off the card with the overtime pay. I wouldn't feel bad about FH paying off the credit card debt unless he was still paying it off for months to come, struggling to pay it, or I made him spent alot of $$ on the e-ring.
I have one friend that knows exactly what type of ring she wants and it cost ALOT of $$$. He boyfriend just got a job with the government and is not making a lot of $$, but he has $$ saved up. SHe asked me the other day if $5000 is alot to pay for just a band (not including the stone). I was like, to me, yes it is, but it all depends on what you. If you feel comfortable making your boyfriend spent $10K on a ring for you and he will struggle to make the payments, then that is you. Me, I would feel bad. Now if your FH can afford a $10K ring then by all means do it.
But then again, I was not someone that had dreamed of what type of ring I wanted. I wanted FH to pick it because it is coming from him. She knows exactly what she wants and she will be VERY disappointed if she doesn't get it, so I think her FH will try to get it for her. To each their own.
