I agree....it is very rude!!!! I have had lots of people ask me as well. The worst was my aunt when I had just gotten engaged...in the same sentence that she said congratulations she asked how many carats it was!
wow thats bad too! its like thats all that everyone cares about..not that me and my fh are in love!!! and getting married!!
even worse...I have a new manager at my part-time job and she noticed my ring. Now this woman knows nothing about me. She just lifted my hand and stared at my finger and said...what do I have to do to get one of those. Well.....excuse me...how about a congratulations...or when are you getting married?. That would have been nice! People are strange!!!!!!!!!!!

People can be soooo rude. Good for you for not answering her. I wouldn't have either. They are just all jealous people.

Re: e-ring question...
Yes, i know what you mean, right after i got engaged, before even cracking a smile or even a change in expression my grandma looks at my rings and goes, oh thats a nice starter ring!
at defense of the perpetrators...right until after i got engaged i had no idea about the sensitivity and etiquette of e-rings. i never asked how much anyones was but i did ooh and ahh at them in a way that i would now find innappropriate. i really had no idea at the time and feel really bad if i offended anyone previously...its just one of those things that some people(like me) dont understand until they get one. if these people are married then they are just RUDE!

A lot of people tend to ask how many carats....which honestly i don't care....it's when they ask the price that i get upset. People are definately rude and i just ignore the question...haha!

Re: e-ring question...
ok i hope i dont get flamed here
before i got engaged i asked how many carats when i saw an e ring - i had no idea it was rude and it was like the second i got MY ring i thought OMG how could i do that?! I never even thought it was rude!
And as for guys - lots of FH's friends ask all the time . . . one of his friends asked yesterday how much we were paying per plate! guys are pretty clueless about these types of things
i do agree it is rude - but i dont think a lot of people know what is proper!

Re: e-ring question...
I never thought people had the audacity to ask such questions...FH clued me into this and as soon as we got engaged, I heard 'How much was it? How many carats?' both alone and with my FH present...he was so happy that he was right!
If and when people ask, I will say, 'I don't share personal information' Not even my best friends have asked, nor did my family members. If anyone thinks I'd tell them, friend, aquaintance or what-not they are nuts! What rude people in our world!
