Ear candling is a load of hooey. Your ears NATURALLY clean themselves on their own, the wax is SUPPOSED to be there (it provides protection from foreign objects). Only people that have impacted wax should be removing it-and only by a doctor or audiologist.

Re: Ear Candling....
I've done it before in the past, and I've found it very cleansing. Especially after being on a plane and everything. It's really weird to hear the 'crackle' and even weirder to see what comes out of the cone!

Re: Ear Candling....
i think I'd definitely like to have my ears cleared, but I'm not sure I could trust the candling! I'm so paranoid - I wouldn't want anyone to mess with my ears unless it's a doctor!

Re: Ear Candling....
I study with one of the top audiologists in the field and I remember discussing this in class. It's really not a good idea. Cerumen (wax) is actually good for your ears (unless there is a build up that blocks the ear canal). It helps to moisten and protect your ears...even though it may look yucky. Even if you have a bad build up that is actually affecting your hearing, there are other, more safe ways, to do it.
ETA: most ENT's will actually recommend that you leave the cerumen alone completely...not even a Q-tip because it will push the wax further into your canal...although, I have to say I can't help but not follow that advice

Re: Ear Candling....
Funny that someone posted about this...not to be gross but when I heard this on the radio this morning, I had to pull over (I was driving to work) because I thought I was going to throw up! I dont know why I didnt just change the station but I kept on listening. It made me sick to think about it! I could NEVER do it!

Re: Ear Candling....
don't have it done - it doesnt work. . . I was at a health fair a few years ago and there was a booth where a woman was advertising it - a doctor happened by and he started debating it with her - and to prove his point that it was nonsense, he made her do the procedure on someone while at the same time, another candle burned in a candle holder. After both procedures were done they examined the contents of the cone and the contents of the candle by itself (they cut it open or something - I dont totally remember) but the contests were EXACTLY THE SAME.
The stuff that you think is coming out of your ears is just the candle burning down - dont waste your money!
