Re: East Meadow
My mom grew up in East Meadow. It's not bad. My MOH's mother is a teacher in the elementary school. The train into the city should not be much more than 45 minutes.

Re: East Meadow
check out greatschools.net. That will tell you about the school system. Also, check into MLSLI.com. That will tell you about the community. Realtors will give you information on the median home price, median income of the community, size of the community, and how the schools are quantatatively (regents, SATs, AP classes and exams and colleges the recent students attended). The research is totally worth it!

Re: East Meadow
I grew up in East Meadow. It's a great neighborhood. When I used to commute to the city I would drive down to the Bellmore or Merrick train station.
FM me if you have specific questions.

Re: East Meadow
The biggest reason that we didn't like East Meadow was because of the lack of train station. There is no train in East Meadow and depending on where you live in East Meadow it could take you 10-15 minutes to drive there and get a parking spot, get up to the train, etc. Now tack on a 40 minute ride to penn, it's an hour just to get into the city. Plus add in your subway ride.
We also found that the prices weren't that much better in East Meadow. We saw homes that were about $10,000 less then the home we eventually bought in Merrick. Comparing the 2 we found East Meadow to be too far of a commute, schools don't even compare and the property size was better in Merrick.
Just my experience though.

Re: East Meadow
I grew up in E Meadow. The schools are good, some areas are great & some are just ok. My Mom still lives there & has a ton of property, lives 8 minutes from the train station, has great neighbors, I enjoyed growing up there. FM me if you have any questions.
