Help?!?!?! My fiance and I cannot decide between booking the Watermill (in Smithtown) or East Wind Estate (in Wading River) for our May 2009 wedding reception. Has anyone attended any recent weddings at either or have any insight/advice?? Any help would be MUCH appreciated, thanks!!!

Re: East Wind or Watermill?????
I have never been to a wedding at the East Wind, but my friend had her pre/post wedding events there...the food was great and the hotel was very nice. As for the Watermill, my fiance and I checked out over 30 different RHs and the Watermill had everything we wanted...it's beautiful inside and out. We also really like our BM and that helped make the Watermill an easy decision. We visited several times before booking and on one occassion we ran into a bride and groom. They stopped in the middle of their photo shoot to acknowledge our BM....you could tell that they were very fond of him. FM if you need more info.

Re: East Wind or Watermill?????
East Wind would be my pic, because it is my hall!!
I think that the quality of food at both recption halls are equal. It is a matter of taste and prefrence of what you want on your menu. We decided the water mill was out of the question becasue in my family and friends we have been there a few time.
East Wind is georgeous. They have beautiful serene grounds and it tends to be a lot quiter since sounds ave is not as busy as 347.
I love JOHN M. who helped me book there.
It is a matter of what you are looking for. The 2 buildings are quiet diffrent in style and ambiance.

Re: East Wind or Watermill?????
I think I answered you on the Knot. Both places are beautiful. I am partial to East Wind because my wedding was there and some other friends and family have a so been married there. Not sure about the food at WaterMill, haven't been in a long time. IMO the only downside to watermill is that there is more than one bride there at a time. Not sure if that matters to you. Good luck in your RH search!!

Re: East Wind or Watermill?????
This decision really is a personal preference. I booked at East Wind and we loove it, but other people who booked Watermill loove it there too!! Check out both places and decide for yourself. You'll know the second you walk in which place is 'yours'. Don't book based on the fact that a couple of girls on LIW said the food/ambience/pictures/bathrooms(whatever!!) is nicer than the other.

Re: East Wind or Watermill?????
We've actually visited both already and met with catering managers at both, but just can't decide between the two! I think something is wrong with me that I don't just know as soon as I walk in?! We are going back next Sunday for a second site visit to both of them... hopefully that will help?!

Re: East Wind or Watermill?????
I have been to weddings at both and I think they are very comprable. I agree with some of the previous posts that you really can't go wrong with either place. Nothing wrong with not knowing the first time you visit. FH and I were torn between Giorgios and the Venetian Yacht Club. We had to really sit down and think about it. I think it depends what you are looking for. If you are looking for the Estate at East Wind I would vote for that b/c then you will be the only wedding at that time which is a nice feature to have.

Re: East Wind or Watermill?????
We chose between these final two also. In the end we chose Watermill and our day was a dream come true. The service was stellar from the get-go (our experience at EW was not) and the reviews I got and read around the time I booked were far better for Watermill. My family also has been to a lot of weddings at EW and the food has been somewhat inconsistent - sometimes good, sometimes not as good.
Loads of pics and info in my review. I also recommend working with Bruce!
Best of luck in your choice - I don't think you can go wrong, but can assure you you will LOVE the Watermill if you chose there!

Re: East Wind or Watermill?????
East Wind without a doubt. We looked at both (they didn't have our date available in the end) but liked East Wind so much more. It was private (your guests don't have to share rest rooms with those of other parties), and the Estate is really beautiful. We also found the price to be more reasonable at East Wind too. If they had had our date available, we would have had a very tough choice to make b/w our actual hall (Danfords) and EW.
