Easy Poll: Would you take a job if...

Easy Poll: Would you take a job if...

...it sucked in every but it paid a lot more then you make now? The job is not long term (less then a year I would do it for) and it involves doing stuff I already done and hate (phone servicing). The job is only hard cause there is so much at stake and a ton of information..But otherwise..Its easy

To sum it up...im gonna sacrifice the job for money. I got bills to pay and a house that I want. I cant do that at the job I'm at now..

What do you think?

I have options like holding out a lil bit more
(seemly, other companies are starting to notice my potential)

i answered no...because of my options i presently have. some other companies want to bring me in to interview...

but the thought is still there as another option. i had my heart set on taking it to make the money but i want to also invest time into something that i really want to do.

I vote for $$$
because like you said you are trying to put money aside for a house...I think that should be priority

it is a priority... i'm just being 'greedy' trying to get more out of it (money and happiness)

no your not being greedy....you are still willing to work for what you have and want.
Its so expensive to buy a house..so any extra $$ is a huge help....even if its only a 1000.00....closing costs add up quickly.

no way. I would never (again) take a job if it made me miserable even if it paid better. Learned my lesson.

Depends on how much i didn't like it...
If it made my day torurous....no

But if it was just something i didn't like but could do and tolerate....YES

Right now...more money is the key for me

Me too. For me, happiness is key.

But everyone is different. There is only so much I could tolerate. Good luck to you!

I probably wouldn't. Besides the fact that it's horrible to have to wake up and go to a job you hate (reg. of $$) I don't the job switching looks good on your resume either.

i hate my job now...at least i be making more is what i was gonna be doing.

Overall, i want to leave my company...this would be internal move if i took the money. Im trying to get out to another big company... its been slow up until the past few days, people want to interview with me.

as for job switching..it can be a postive thing also if you are progressivly moving up. any company that i've worked for , i been for at least 3 years that are listed on my resume.. with my current company, im hear 5.

Those are good numbers of years then. and if the job is internal I'd do it. Hey while you're making the higher salary you can still continue to look for something else.
Good luck!!!

I've never had the option of making a lot of $ and being miserable (although I have had jobs where I make crappy $ and am still miserable), so I would have to say that I would love to make lots of $ and see if it makes me feel any better :)

Well yes - that is my job right now! it pays way more than I would make doing what I really love (science/wildlife rehab), but honestly with the wedding, purchasing a new home and living on LI, I just don't have the luxury of having a job I love (for now).

I voted for holding out until you are happy w/ the job and the money - only because for me personally I've found that when I hated my job, it spread into other areas of my life and I was flat out miserable...I took a pay cut and now love my job - sure it means cutting back on some things, but I find that budgeting is more helpful than sitting through 40+ hours of misery each week. If you track your expenses you may find that there are things that we take for granted (buying lunch, cigarettes, coffee) that if we only brought lunch for home, quit, or skipped we could save hundreds a month.

(Okay, sorry, the career counselor will stop now )

as of right now, i'd take the $$. my job doesn't pay me millions, but its enough to pay the bills and save some each month, there is a wedding to think about. i wouldn't consider leaving now, even if the chance came along.

i said yes only because i would rather be more comfortable and be making some kind of money even though money is tight, rather than waiting who knows how long to find another job. after sept 11th it's very hard to find any jobs, especially any good ones!! (not that i have looked in the papers, been at my job for a while)

i agree. i took my last position for the money, and it SOOO was not worth it. like m&m said- it really did carry over to other aspects of my life. Also, if this position would only be for a year... does it offer any sort of job security after that? i would be hesitant about that as well.

i took a BIG cut to be where i am now, and it was just a couple of months before the wedding (which we paid for everything by ourselves). I was able to save so much though (b/c now its a shorter commute, i go home for lunch... it really adds up).

But the realistic side of me has to also admit that if it was for a 6-figure salary (or pretty close to it), i would consider it.

I totally agree with this. A miserable job usually equals a miserable person. I've been there and done that both personally and with my DH.

So not fun.

My thinking is this, if it's a short term thing, that has a finacial gain that enables you to attain life goals, ie house down payment, getting rid of debt then I would do it for a year or two. It seems in our day and age people don't stay in one place for a long time like 10, 15, 20 years.

I don't really like my present job, it's not a career type of thing, but it pays me well and it allows me a good deal of freedom since I get to do it from home and I have my daytime hours free, which allows me to work my second job twice a week. So for now I am staying but I def see myself moving on in another year or two at the most. I basically need the money, sometimes you sacrafice one thing for another, it's part of life.

There is a part of me that agrees with other's, miserable work life = miserable grumpy person, so my best advice is go with your gut instinct.
