Email from FH's cousin about no kids at the wedding....

Original post by GR2010

Dude, the guilt trip isn't going to work. I don't care about you or your little bratty kid... do everyone a favor, keep your hundred bucks and stay home.

Enjoy reading...

Last you called I was on my way out the door and never returned your call. I have since lost your phone number from my 'recent calls' list.

I apologize but I should have made it clear to you right away that day that we would not be making it to the wedding as Tyler (and kids in general) would not be allowed to the wedding. I am not in favor of leaving him home to share in the day when he would be wishing he were there and wondering how it all was going.

He thoroughly enjoyed himself at the {FBIL's} wedding and was very happy to see Deb, Ashley, your parents as well as you and Steve. He was also excited taking pictures with his own camera for his own memories.

Please, please, please do not worry or make a big deal about it as it is yours' and hers' choice to arrange your wedding as you see fit. I have to be honest until this year I had not heard of that practice and always veiwed weddings as a larger family gathering, sharing in the event with some freinds invited as well. I always thought of it as a mini family re-union.

Anyway as I said, please don't fret over it as it is your wedding to plan, and your planning of the wedding to see to it as you wish.

We wish you all the best and will be in touch!

wow, pretty impressive on the passive aggressive guilt trip. too bad it makes those people seem like the idiots...

'have not heard of this practice?' really?? c'mon people.... let's think logically about this.

Totally passive aggressive!

We are lucky that the only kids coming are in the BP and our reader's 16yo son (as her date), but we also don't know anyone else with young children so we missed that drama...but I wish people would just respect your wishes without making a guilt trip!

Wow...Tyler has alot of control on that household..ha ha..I am sure the kid may have wanted to come, but you just say NO... Parents nowadays have a hard time with NO. Also, the parents didn't want to spring for a sitter probably..

I am glad you don't care...You shouldn't. I wouldn't address it at all. Especially with them complaining to the family..ugh.

I would respond back:

Thanks for the email and don't worry we wont be worrying about you guys not being there.

WHY DO PEOPLE GET SO CRAZY OVER KIDS NOT BEING INVITED!!!!!???? One of Dhs aunts doesn't talk to us anymore over her grandson not being invited!!! its not a family reunion...if that is what they want have them throw a family reunion!!!!

and ya know, I love how he says, 'I am not in favor of leaving him home to share in the day when he would be wishing he were there and wondering how it all was going.'

10 bucks says he doesn't give a rats azzz about it. I didn't want to go everywhere w my parents as a kid.

I am reminded by the many events my parents went to and left me and my brother home with a sitter. No we did not miss the event. Yes we had more fun with the sitter. The only thing I remember is my mommy was nice and brought us home a treat on a dish she swiped from the hall - and she still has the dish.

Yep. As a kid, I always wanted to attend weddings but was never invited. I don't think my parents made a big deal about it. I'm sure they were happy for an evening without me!

This person is lame! Get a life, and stop letting your kid rule you! I'm sure Tyler will live if he doesnt come to the wedding. Gimme a break!

His wife def wrote that and where do they live that they never heard of the practice of not inviting children. My cousins wedding a couple people got so wasted they had to be watched so they didnt trample any of the kids running around. How important could be going to a wedding be for a little boy? really. I wouldnt respond to the note unless after the wedding there was a check

great email and i love the 'fret' comment. I shall be using that in the future in all my passive aggressions.

as a kid i always viewed weddings as an 'adult' thing and the thought of going never occured to me. was your FBIL's wedding a more 'informal' affair and maybe thats why the kid was inviteD? its ultimately your choice but i dont understand y people cannot rest without adding their 2 cents. Ant's cousin did not SPEAK to me at my wedding cuz i told her that she couldnt bring her 2 year old. when she saw my niece and the FG there, she obv was so pissed off that she couldnt even say congratulations.

yea wow.

when will people understand *most* weddings are for adults? come to the church, ok, would LOVE it, but the reception? no.

The wedding I went to last week, a kid was running around and bumped into me. thank god I was wearing a black dress when my drink spilled a little on me, and that I am not mean to kids when they have an accident.

OH boy..what makes people feel the need to explain themselves by makin you feel bad about a decision you made!! I just dont get it.. You either say yes and come.. or say no and stay home.. I really didnt want to have kids at my reception and we wound up getting guilt tripped into it so now kid are coming and im not thrilled about it at all.. I understand they want to be a part of it but to have to pay for them while they cant drink and will be running around causing a muck is just upsetting to even have to deal with.. you made the right decision and stick to your guns!!! There was no need for him to go ON AND ON about the reasonings .. its just rediculous!!!!

Re: Email from FH's cousin about no kids at the wedding....

The word 'fret' cracks me up... Really I could not care any less than I do right now. I met this guy once and FH said the last time he saw him (other than FBIL's wedding was at a funeral a few years back).

And seriously what pre-teen is like ooooh oooh mommy daddy please take me to this wedding???

We decided not to respond to the email. I really don't care if this guys is insulted or can't be away from his kid for a night. I just thought the whole email was a little nervy. I would never in a million years write someone an email like that because I couldn't take my kid to their wedding. When he plans the next family reunion (which lord I hope we can bring dogs to because I can't imagine leaving Darwin home for a night ) he can have all the kids there he wants and potato sack races and watermelon eating contests. But this is a WEDDING that ends at 1am no less... Your kid will be passed out at the table with his head in his dish before entrees are even served.

What is wrong with just sending the RSVP back with a 'NO' I don't need your life story.
