I am using a different name for this post cause im kind of shy about asking this..my boyfriend and i have been together for a while and we really wanna get engaged, get married--the whole nine yards. the thing is we r in love yet poor lol..we live together, pay all our own bills and support ourselves. the engagement ring, wedding, and anything associated with that is up to us completely to pay for.
my questions is..would it be really bad if he got me an engagement ring that is white gold with cubic zirconia diamonds. we went looking at rings and anything we like is wayyyy out of our price, even the rings for like 2500 or 3000 would put us in debt and im not even a jewelery kind of girl, im more a sweat pants kind of chick. plus to me it isnt about the ring its just about being with him.. he is worred that i will b sad w/o a 'real' diamond but i truly dont care about that. plus who would know?? they look so real. at least then i can get something of substantial size but yet looks real...i hate spending 1500 or even 2500 on a ring that i dont even 'love' anyway and is soo tiny and waste all that money. does any1 think this is a horrible idea? any opinions r appreciated...plus does any1 know where we can go look like rings like this, or does any1 have one??

Check out Diamonique......there jewelry is amazing. You can find it on the QVC website. It all looks incredibly real. I don't think there is anything wrong with not getting a real ring. It's not the ring that's important anyway, it's your love that is.

If I was you I would get some other stone instead of CZ. I really like sapphire! Look at this pic: $419 from Macys.
i agree i dont think an engagement ring has to be a diamond there so many beautiful colored stones out there. there much less expensive then diamonds and people will compliment you on being unique. my friend has a 2 carat pink topaz and it looks beautiful.

Re: embarrassed to ask but i will anyway..
my mom swears that Diamonique on QVC looks exactly like real diamonds!!! They're only a fraction of the cost and they look nice. I don't think there's anything wrong with that. Its the meaning of the ring thats important. Heck the ring isn't even necessary, its the idea of you planning to spend your lives together.

If you want a ring- which you don't need- but you can get a moisonitte ring (sp) which I've heard is pretty much impossible to tell the difference as they have the same atomic makeup as diamonds. They are still pretty expensive.. but for a few hundred dollars you can get something nice.

An engagement ring can be any gem. In Europe they use emeralds and rubies. The meaning behind the ring is what matters not how many carats you can get.
I used to wear this amethyst ring all the time and people would wish me luck with my wedding. I wasn't even dating anyone! lol.

I think you should do whatever makes you happy. I bet nobody will know the difference if you get a CZ!

Re: embarrassed to ask but i will anyway..
I understand how you feel and as all these other brides and brides to be said- who will know the difference. The important thing is that you are w/ the right one !!!!!!! Honestly, if a ring is that important go for a moissanite (you can only tell looking through a loop) or a diamonique. Finding the love of your life is far more important.

You don't have to have diamonds! It's the fact that you want to be together thats important...
My mom didnt like diamonds, she wanted a ruby ring.... my dad got her a diamond anyway but the point is- its what you want that is important :)
Good luck- I hope things work out

Re: embarrassed to ask but i will anyway..
My parents got married without an engagement ring and so did FH's parents. There is no reason that you have to have one.
If you want CZ, there's nothing wrong with it. There's nothing that says that an e-ring has to be a diamond. That's just what is popular now.
The only thing that is important is marrying the right person. And you are far better off doing what you can afford than putting yourself in debt.
Good luck.

i know, you dont need a ring to get married bit i understand where you are coming from....i have seen decent e-rings at Zales and Kay Jewelers for about $400....slightly more affordable. Then you can upgrade lol ! This one is on zales.com and is only about $399.
you can get a ring on ebay for a couple of bucks - fh got my engagement ring on ebay it is emerald and white gold and i totally love it and it didnt cost a fortune either i think you should get something you will be happy with and who cares waht anyone else says - know what i got fh's wedding band it is white gold and opal for less than $100. he loves it and really that is all that matters in the end

If you are not a jewelry person, then you don't need a ring. YOu can also go with a birthstone ring. I have a friend who had a pearl ring as an engagement ring.

It doesn't have to be real, for it to mean something..
I'll tell you a funny story, last summer my FH bought me a sterling sliver 'crystal' ring, and the joke was let's see how well you take care of it, and then maybe I'll buy you a real one..lol
I wore that ring for 4 months before he surprised me with the real one..
Moral of the story, I got sooo many compliments on the fake ring.. no one knew the difference...

You definitely don't need a ring! But if you want one, see if there's a CZ or another stone that you really like! Don't get one b/c u have to. Maybe you'll fall in love with a non diamond ring and you won't want to replacwe it down the line!

You don't need a diamond!!!!!!!!!!! It's whatever you like and whatever he can afford. I can't justify someone putting themselves in debt for an e-ring or a wedding for that matter. What is important is what tou have already stated...that the marriage is not symbolized by the ring...it is more than that...it is about him being the one...forever!!
Kudos to you for being economical and knowing what it really is all about!!!
