OK I started a new job and sit alone (love it), now they want to give me more stuff and move me to a different spot. I feel sick to my stomach. Why? Because I can not stand this one woman, who is loud, obnoxious and curses all day long. Do I have to be subjected to her vulgarities all day long?
ETA: I told them I do not want to sit near her cause of the above. What rights do i have?
I should have added, I work for a small co. a 8 person office. so there is no HR

either, suck it up or move on. I work with a guy who sits outside my office and he cusses constantly, tell dirty jokes, every other word is a negative comment. I ignore him and deal with him as minimally as possible and I do pray for him. He is a lonely person and he needs attention.

I would refuse to move if they refuse to formally do anything about her behavior. Just tell them straight out that you are more than happy to be involved but will not sit within earshot of X as you find her language consistantly offensive. Let them know that any reasonable person would find her language offensive. Follow it up in writing.

its ashame people get away with this, i mean i curse, i am no angel, but not in the workplace.
she is miserable, her hubby left her for a man, now I see why.
sorry i know thats mean but she is a miserable person, rude, loud. obnoxious and a truckers mouth. her laugh would make your skin crawl too!

it IS a shame - you would be appalled at the antics and behavior me and my co-workers had to put up with from the woman I mentioned above.
I don't know why companies think longevity should be an excuse for improper behavior.
I am sure if someone came in for an interview and started swearing like a truck driver from the get go they would not be hired.

Jenn! I totally sympathize with you! I used to work in an 8 person office too w/ no HR. I had a horrible time with one of my old-co workers (to the point I was being verbally abused) and they was nothing I could do about it aside from kicking her In the end I had to wind up looking for a better job and sometimes I think I should have sued.
I hope things work out for you! You shouldn't have to be subjected to work conditions like that. That's why after that experience I will only work for a large company now. It's unfortunate but HR is really important. Hang in there!

HR or no HR you still have rights. Her cursing if it bothers you can be seen as harassment.
Why do you need to move where you sit now? If you HAVE to, talk to your boss and tell him/her that her vulgar mouth distracts you and if you're taking on extra work, that will hinder you from completing it in a timely manner (always good to slant it in a way that sounds like the company will lose $$ or work won't be completed).
I don't know what you can do if they don't help you out this way but I'm sure that something can be done about it if that happens.

That is exactly what I was going to say, times, dates and what she said.
I was in a similar situation but the girl had such back BO she smelt like a farm!! No one would tell her and they sat me next to her. I told my boss to go sit and talk to her for 10 minutes if he can stand it I would sit there....guess what !! He moved me seat!
