Hey ladies, I was wondering how you told your families that you were engaged?

Re: Engagement
FH asked me at 11:30 in the morning, so we spent the whole day visiting family memebers and surprising them with me standing at the door w/ my hand on my face (obv. to show my ring!)

Re: Engagement
My parents knew since FH had asked them. As soon as we got on the plane to Hawaii (where he did it) my Moms big mouth was on the phone telling everyone. I called my friends and told them and FH called his parents, since they had no idea (he didn't even tell them he was looking at rings-needless to say they were a bit surprised).

Re: Engagement
I think they had an idea but didn't know when. I ran upstairs and told both of my parents to sit down. I started yelling I'm engaged. And then the calls began

Re: Engagement
Umm well FH told my parents bc he needed their help to get me out of a wedding I was supposed to go to. They came in the door about 10 min after we did and I hid my hand until everyone was in the room...including my aunt and uncle who was staying with us for the weekend. Now my very irish family just came home from a wedding and they were pretty much half in the bag. When I finally showed them my hand and told them, they were over excited! We all started doing shots of irish whiskey and called the family from Arizona since with the time difference I wouldnt wake anyone up. The next two days I spent on the phone calling everyone else since my family is freakin huge!

Re: Engagement
FH and I were on a trip to Greece (the motherland for us both) with my parents. His parents were also in Greece so we all drove down to where his parents were staying so that our parents could 'meet' for the first time.
As soon as we got to the house and introduced everyone, FH asked me to come for a ride with him and that's when he popped the question. NO ONE knew about it so when we went back to the house we told everyone to sit down because we had some news to tell them. FH then went on to tell our parents and family (there was 12 of us in total) that we had a long talk and that I was no longer his girlfriend--everyone's mouths DROPPED!! They thought we had broken uP!!
Then he lifted my hand and said 'we're engaged!!' and everyone started to BAWL!!! It was great.

Re: Engagement
FH went to my parents house one night when we were having craft night at our house (Once a week my mom and sister come over and we make something). He asked my father so he already knew. When I called my mom after he proposed and she said it out loud, my dad was like, 'yeah, I know.' My mom couldn't believe he kept the secret from her! They were really happy though!

Re: Engagement
I wish I had a romantic or funny story to tell you but this is how it happened....
My father first had to break the news to my mother that I had just been diagnosed with Stage 4 non-Hodgkins lymphoma. (I conveniently was out of the house when he did this). When I came home, I found her in the laundry room folding clothes and crying.
So after she went over her hysterics about my illness, I told her that, yes, the next six months were going to suck while I go through chemo and radiation, but that the doctors predicted a full and complete recovery.
And then I said, 'And look...it took twelve years for ding dong to finally decide to marry me....so we have a wedding to plan!!!!!'
And that finally stopped her crying! So now it's been a little tradition...she buys me a bridal magazine before my chemo treatments so I have something 'happy' to look through while I'm there.
