engagement length.....

Original post by kasullen

FI and I are dating almost 4 years....we have been living together 3 years Jan 1st. I am ready to book a RH for 6/1/12... I want the weather to be warm and to be up our chances of a ceremony outside because we are interfatih. Is that too long of an engagement? Everyone makes you question...

It's funny....everyone ALWAYs says that it is about - 'the two of you' meaning you and your FI...but they all put in their 'two sense' anyway. I am starting to realize everyone is full of ****! lol. I am sure you all know what I mean and can relate. Ugh.

Who cares about engagement length

All I have to say is who cares what other people think. Do what will make you guys happy. Don’t sweat it!

We will be engaged for 3yrs 10 months and 4 days when we tie the knot.

I actually wish I had a longer engagement, and ours is 1.5 years! Trust me, it goes by waaay faster than you think it will. And if it works for you, go for it! I had originally hoped for a 2012 wedding after getting engaged in Jan of this year but mom put the kibosh on that real quick.

ITA with this

i wish our engagement was longer b/c we would have had more time to save money, prepare, etc. i was really busy for the first 8 months of our engagement finishing off law school and studying for the bar exam. now i have to get back to the books in 2 weeks and will be out of commission until the end of february because i have to retake the bar. our engagement is 23 months long and it's not long enough IMO, but im really excited and can't wait until next november!

I agree with everyone else.. people will have something to say no matter what you do.. so do whats best for you and FH.

I've been with FH 4 years living with him for a few months. Our wedding is May 2012 ..our engagement will be a lil over 2 years.

Do whatever makes you guys happy..and what works for you. FH and I will be engaged 18 months. At first I thought I was gonna go crazyy cos it felt so long, but time is really flying by and the time we designated worked out nicely for planning, buying our house etc.

I wanted a nice wedding so we wanted to take our time . We've been engaged since Dec of 2008 so we will be engaged over 2 years when we get married.

I agree! I am aiming for 1.5! Thanks girls....you all made me feel better! :) Engagements should only come once in a lifetime - whats the rush for it to end! :)

no not at all me and FH have been together for 5 years living together for 3 and we were engaged on July 11 2009. It seriously is what is right for you. And when his parents asked why are you guys taking so long. we said we had to save money and low and behold they forked up some cash...(and we still waited) lol

You can have your engagement be as long or as short as you want!! I am a May 2012 bride and have a year and a half left and I LOVE it! We are really saving and taking our time with the wedding which is great and working out perfectly

Re: engagement length.....

I got engaged January 1, 2009. We just got married September 5, 2010. It was a LONG engagement and every weekend went by and I thought 'why didn't I pick this weekend, it's so much closer' BUT I'm happy I stuck with the longer engagement and did it around the time of year I wanted to. PLUS, we had time to save the money we needed.

Do remember that people are going to get engaged after you and might even plan weddings before you. It TOTALLY s*cks because I wanted to be happy for them but my wedding got pushed to the back so much people just didn't help and didn't even want to hear about our wedding. BUT, that's just because I had a really cr*ppy engagement and I digressed why too much in this post.

ANYWAY, there is no right or wrong answer here for how long is too long. As much as our engagement was cr*ppy, I wouldn't have changed the length for anything, just the people I surrounded myself with.
