Ok so FH and I technically have been engaged for 4 years but never made a big to do about it and neither did anyone else. Now that we are planning wedding FMIL thinks we should have an engagement party. I think we have been engaged for too long.... What do you think?

i think most traditional rules (even those of timelines) are pretty much out the window. I think that its OK... i think a small e-party would be nice to bring to everyone's attention that you Are engaged, and reaquaint yourself w/ everyone before the wedding... also, you could give out STDs ( sorry, that still cracks me up).... but then it makes it more official, especially since a big deal was never made (and it should be.... Youre getting MARRIED )
but it really just comes down to personal opinion!!! what do YOU ideally want (all rules aside)???

i agree with you should do what makes you happy and timelines of how long you've been engaged doesn't matter...however...it is a bit close to your wedding, so i wouldn't do anything crazy like a huge party ya know?

I agree with not going too crazy if you decide to have one. There's no timeline, persay, but I think on average it's about a year before the wedding.
I wouldn't wait very long to have one though since the party/bridal shower/wedding will be fairly close together and even though it's not required to bring a gift, most do, and it might be kind of tough with so many parties so close together.
I think it's fine to have one, but I'd just keep it kind of small and have it within the next month or so. Good luck!

If you want one have one. We had one and it wasn't a big to do. Just a time for family and friends to congratualte the happy couple on their upcoming marriage. Good Luck!

It's never too late. I say go for it, FH is giving you the ok as well. I can see if maybe he didn't agree, but he does.
