engagement party?

engagement party?

Is anyone else not having an engagement party? Everyone keeps asking me why I'm not having one. I never thought it was a must. My mom offered to give us one but I felt bad making her spend more money since she's paying for most of the wedding. I also didn't want people to feel they had to bring gifts for the engagement since they have to buy for the shower and the wedding too. Now, I'm second guessing myself since everyone is asking about it.

I had an engagement party ....my fiance owns a coffee house eatery so we had it there ....it was only supp to be immediate fam (didnt end up that way ) it was constantly on and off again it was so aggravating and not cause of me for once lol ....the person shall remain nameless. But overall it ended up nice everyone had a great time ....dont let anyone tell you you should or should not have it you do whats right for you thats just my opinon. That is nice of your mom to offer to throw it ,,and again it doesnt have to b anything big. Good luck hope my rambling helped a lil.

We didn't have one... We didn't want people to feel obligated to get us presents twice in a little over a year. Sometimes I wish I had had one but we did save money by not doing it.

We're having one next weekend. My mom is paying for it, and fh's parents is paying for the dj... my mom is also paying the rh for the wedding so we are covering the costs of everything else. In our family people typically give monetary gifts so we are hoping to put our gifts towards the wedding. I'm so excited! If you can have one, def do it! Its a nice way to announce your engagement and have your extended families meet! And who doesnt love a party?

We're not. My mother said she 'doesn't believe in one.' Which I get. She says it's just an excuse to get presents. Which I would love. We both know each others' extended families, so that's not really an issue for us. But if she's not paying for it, we're not having it. It's just not in our budget. Does that make us weird?

i feel bad having 1.. cuz guests will be giving us $ for the wedding and spending money for my shower.. i duno.having an eparty is asking for too much, esp with this economy.

I agree...the wedding is definitely going to be a hardship for us, but we are both lucky enough to have jobs. It might be too much for some people. We celebrated with our families when we got engaged and feel like that's enough.

noooo dont feel obligated! I am doing an e part instead of a shower I told everyone DO NOT through me a shower I would much rather have an eparty w fh and his fam then a shower (or both for cost reasons).

no i'm not having one....my parents and FILs are doing more then enough for the wedding and i really don't want them spending anymore money, especially with the way the economy is.

I am having one. Fh and my families (extended families - other than parents) haven't met and we really want them to meet before the wedding. We are having a casual backyard BBQ in June - so we figure it's a good excuse for a BBQ as both of our families love them!

I am not having one. IMO I just think it is an added expense when it truly isn't that necessary. Especially since FH and I are paying for everything.

I had an engagement dinner with only the immediate family and friends. I've been engagement parties that had 200 people. They were like a mini weddings. Kind of silly if you ask me. With today's economy, i think we should focs all our $$$$ on the big day.

I am having one in 2 weeks. We didn't want anythin to overdone or to simialr to a wedding. So we are having a coctail party at an American Legion hall. We wanted to celebrate our engagment with our families so we wanted one. It is a persoanl preferance if you want it do it.

my mom has talked about having one but I dont know. if we do have one it will probably be in the summer when my grandparents come up from Florida and that way we can have one outside. If I dont have one thats fine with me too.
