engagement party?

Original post by LaurenJosh

Is anyone else not having an engagement party? Everyone keeps asking me why I'm not having one. I never thought it was a must. My mom offered to give us one but I felt bad making her spend more money since she's paying for most of the wedding. I also didn't want people to feel they had to bring gifts for the engagement since they have to buy for the shower and the wedding too. Now, I'm second guessing myself since everyone is asking about it.

Re: engagement party?

I am not having an engagement party. We were bombarded with questions of why not, and I simply responded 'yes I am engaged, I would rather celebrate with everyone at my wedding not before hand'.

We lived 2 states away from everyone when I became engaged so all I did was call everyone that is important to me so I could tell them.

I feel there are too many parties to have an engagement one too. If anyone wanted to give a congratulations gift they did. We received a few gifts in the mail that we were grateful for, but thought were not necessary.

My FH and I are paying for the entire wedding/honey moon, and will most likely be paying the rehearsal dinner too, we really couldn't afford an engagement party anyway. My mom hinted at throwing one and I just kept declining. It pissed off my aunt, but who cares.. My FH and I aren't people who feel the need to celebrate every little event that takes place.

If you can afford it and it is something you feel you want, then by all means go ahead and have one, but it just doesn't fit in our personalities.

Re: engagement party?

My parents are throwing us an engagement party. It will be at the local fire dept; which is gorgeous! We are inviting all of his family and my family and our close friends. We are expecting 60-75 ppl. We will be having a DJ, and registering and I am really excited about it!

This is a great time for my family to meet his, since we (and his family) live upstate where my family lives in Long Island. His family is making a huge weekend out of it. A lot of his family have never been to the City!!!!! So we are taking them there and taking them out east! It is going to be so much fun
