Engagement Party

Engagement Party

How many people had an engagement party?

If you did: How long after you got engaged did you have the party and was it majority friends or family...

I'm wondering if we should have one, where and how much we should budget for a e-party..

Re: Engagement Party

We're having one towards the end of June - that's be about a month and half after our engagement and it's going to be a simple back yard bbq, nothing too stressful or over the top, and everyone that is invited to the wedding will be invited to the eparty :)

Thanks... Almost (all) my family is OOS and FH family is local. If we did anything it'd be more friends then family which is OK with me. We just bought a house LY so the BBQ isn't a bad idea...

No problem, you guys will still have a great time and you can still decorate everything so it's more than just a regular bbq, have fun with it!!

We had it at a restaurant about 5 months after we got engaged. We just invited our parents and the bridal party.

SoontobeMrsONeill - you just got engaged on the 8th and already have your wedding location: 'check!' ?

i'm impressed all we've done is thought of a guest list and are going back and forth between what month to get married that DOESN'T interfer without else...

Next year is the year of many weddings...

Haha we work quickly

Nahh we started looking for places on March 27th, found our place April 27 after looking at 30 different places and we actually 'officially' booked the day before we got engaged. We knew it was going to happen it was just a matter of time - but i was the one that didn't think it would be so soon so i really was caught off guard and completely surprised by it lol

Re: Engagement Party

My MOH's and BM decided to throw one for FH and I about 3 weeks after we got engaged. It was a nice thought. I wasn't even asking for one

Re: Engagement Party

We opted to not have an engagement party. We are having a family 'meet and greet' bbq - we're hiring a bbq person, cake etc. The bridal party will also be invited. We are having it about 6 months after our engagement.

We got engaged May 28th and had our engagement party in August. We had our family and close friends.

Re: Engagement Party

We had one last August - about 3 months after getting engaged and 1 full year before the wedding. It was just a backyard bbq but we had over 100 people there.

we had a short engagement so we didnt have an eparty... i doubt we would have had one anyway...

anyway... my sister did what you did... it wasnt an egagement party, it was a party for the Bridal Party to officially ask them... even though they all knew already... but it was nice for everyone to hang out... it was a backyard deal

Re: Engagement Party

we are also going to backyard BBQ route. FHs family is all from upstate, so I doubt most of them will come. My family is mostly local, so some of them will be there and some friends as well. You can do it however you want, I know some people have fairly big elaborate e-parties. Its just up to you!

Re: Engagement Party

We had our engagement party 4 months after we got engaged. We both have big Italian (FH) / Maltese (Me) families so we invited 120 people (6 of which were friends) everyone else was immediate family. We ended up having around 90 people. basically it was only family and our bridal party.

We got engaged in March, but we are having our party in August.

Re: Engagement Party

We are only having one because FH parents offered to throw us one. But we are only having closest friends and family (under 60 people) which if you knew how many people we love, you would know this is small!

We are calling it more of a family 'meet and greet', having a brunch in a hotel.

We are doing it exactly a year after we got engaged and exactly a year until the wedding. Im sure this is not the norm but for us it is a 'kick off party' for the year of events to come (since we have such a long engagement bc i am in school).

Re: Engagement Party

We just moved into our new house last week,
so we're planning on having an e-party/house warming party combo... it probably wont be for another month or so, but that means we will have been engaged for 5 months...
as far as inviting.. we are inviting all and everyone because I want everyone to see our new house
Just doing a bbq and buffet style food throughout the house

I had one, it was 9 months after we got engaged. On my side it was family and a handful of friends because I have a really big family. On FH's side it was everyone they ever met I'm kidding...kinda!

We had one about 2 months after we got engaged. (planned it within a week of getting engaged)

We had about 145 people there. We kept it to family members, bridal party and then close friends who were local.
