Engagement Party

Engagement Party

I just recently got engaged and it's kind of throwing me for a loop! My FH and I are pretty much footing the bill for the entire event...but I really want all the things that go with a wedding, especially the engagement party!

I am trying to come up with places that are on the inexpensive side and can hold a party of 75-100 people! Any ideas? Suggestions? I'm not looking at halls...maybe just a restaurant or nice bar even! Thanks!

i'm having the same problem! i want an e-party, but even with IMMEDIATE family it is 50 people. We are now planning to go to a resturant on city island and have an intimate (if 50 people can be intimate) dinner and drinks. Its pretty much the same thing we did for my mom and dad's 50th bdays....which egh, is ok i guess. I would love another party, but that is totally not in the budget.

ALSO, I just threw a big graduation party (like super sweet 16 style) and to have an e-party like 6 months later.....i feel like i'm hitting people up for money/gifts, when the economy sucks so bad.

I dunno what to do.

I would definitely do the catering thing but have no where to hold it!!! My apartment will not fit that many people...and don't think either of our parent's houses will fit that either!

jetersgirl216....youa re definitely in the same boat! I thought about the whole Firehouse or Knights of Columbus thing....something I will be looking into...

My biggest problem is going to be the alcohol....our friends are drinkers!

You could also consider a brunch or lunch, sometims that is cheaper. Also, our friends our drinkers too, but for our e-party we did beer, wine and soda included with a cash bar if anyone had to have liquior. I think everyone drank the beer and wine and seemed to have a good time.

Seriously....is it me or do all our FH's have huge families??!!! We are in Nassau County...hicksville/bethpage/farmingdale area to be exact. Somewhere in the vicinity would be nice but I am open to a little bit of a drive if the price is good!

Knights of Columbus has packages that include alcohol.

I know when I was looking for eparty locations Captain Bills in Bay Shore had decent prices and so did Molly Malones in Bay Shore they have a huge upstairs room.

I had mine at the Elks Lodge 2162, in Massapequa. I had 105 people because his family in small and I'm the world. It holds 200 and you can bring a cake. I paid for beer, wine, and soda including food. Anything else I felt the guests can pay. Look in my album and FM me if you want the price.

We are paying for everything ourselves also. We decided to throw ourselves an engagement party, I was so stressed about the money but then once the day came it was amazing. I cant imagine not having our engagement party! With only immediate family and extremely close friends (bridal party only!!!) We had 159 people.... CRAZY!!! We had it at Singletons in Bethpage, it was a great room and the food was delicious. We still have people telling us what a great time they had! They were very reasonably priced. FM if you want any info!

Our party is a Sunday afternoon so we're thinking too many people aren't going to be drinking.

What's the problem? $$$??

Both our moms are doing the cooking. We are in charge of the drinks. I just bought 10 12 packs of soda and 2 cases of water bottles. Next is juice boxes & beer & wine. Should all come to about $125

Just dont under estimate peoples drinking... when i had my eparty i figured oh its from 1-5 no one should drink thattt much... i was wrong.. people gotta totally wrecked! and tabbed liquor (FMIL opened a tab for one of her good friends, no clue how people figured out there was a tab) when it was only supposed to be beer/wine!

Re: Engagement Party

Thanks again everyone for the suggestions and recommendations!

As far as the alcohol goes - I know this might sound odd but I don't want to look cheap only offering beer and wine...especially since our good friends just got married and everytime there was an event it was either open bar or they just ran a tab for everyone! Sometimes, I have found, that a tab is cheaper b/c not everyone will be drinking and you don't want to pay a set fee for 75 people when maybe only half that have a drink! Not sure if any of this makes sense but I know my FH will be thinking the same thing!

The tab was wayyyy cheaper than paying for the full open bar per person.. I think our tab was a few hundred.. full open bar wouldve been like an extra grand.
