Engagement Party Etiquette

Hi! Quick question. My engagement party is next week and we are having a sitdown dinner at a restaurant that includes a champagne toast. Who traditionally gives the toast at an engagement party?

Engagement Party Etiquette

I dont think it matters. When I had my engagement party, my future father in law gave it. But this weekend I went to an engagement party where the mother of the bride gave it. Hope this helps.

Engagement Party Etiquette

At our engagement party, our best man gave the toast. My sister (MOH)then added a few words as well. I think it can be anyone who would like to say something.

Engagement Party Etiquette

I think that at engagement parties, the bride's family (usually father) opens the party by welcoming guests and giving a toast to the couple, b/c traditionally, the bride's family hosts this party. That can be followed by any family member or friend, wishing to honor the couple by sharing some special thoughts. At the rehearsal dinner, usually the groom's parents (father) gives the first toast, since they are usually the hosts of that party. Again, any other guests are welcomed to follow. Good luck!

I agree wtih MiniBride

The mother or father of the bride should say the first toast. If someone else would like to speak that is fine. I would just remind the best man that he still has to do the 'big' speech so he might not want to use his best material yet.
