engagement party-help

I have recently been invited to two engagement parties that included registry info in the invitation. So, I ask this...is this ok to do? I personally dont mind it. But I will be sending out invites to mine soon, will my guests think it is tacky to put in where I am registered?

From what I've heard on this webpage, you're not suppose to mention that on your invite. It's suppose to be mentioned by word of mouth. I think it is tacky... I never even registered for our engagement party... it was a surprise party, but I wouldn't of registered even if it wasn't. Just my opinion. Good luck!

we did not have an engagement party cause we felt that was asking for presents. we sent out announcements to share the good news and registered incase anyone did want to get us anything they knew what we liked. I do think it is tacky to put that in an invitation.

Registries should only be listed on the invite for the bridal shower.
We had a small engagement dinner and registered for a few things beforehand.

I do not think it is tacky. When I had mine people called up me, my mother, and my sisters to ask if and where we were registered. I think including it on the invitation makes it a lot easier for the guests.

It is fine to register for a few things right after you announce your engagement, but to put it on an invite seems tacky. I don't understand why someone who is throwing one for a newly engaged couple would do that. All the parties I have been to sometimes people brought gifts and some brought cash and others brought themselves.
That just seems greedy to me that someone would have whoever is throwing there engagement party put where they are registered

I agree with all of you but in a sense aug9bride is right. Would it be better to just add an additional card with the invite mentioning the registry? I am having an engagement party too and have been contimplating the same issue. I think I am going to include a separate card rather than adding the information on the invitation itself. Unless someone has another idea besides word of mouth...

I think adding a registry card isnt the worst thing ever...

I think the registry card is the route I am heading. I guess it depends on what each individual attendant's opinion is. We all know there will always be someone who has nothing but negative things to say about your wedding/party or whatever. My family and family friends find it very tacky to appear at a party empty handed, especially if the party is for someone and not a regular party. Using the registry card will just solve their problem of having to find something for us rather than picking something that we already want.

I think it's a bit excessive and tacky to mention a registry for the engagement party. Guests do a lot for us between the showers, the engagement party, the wedding - its quite an expense. Also I feel gifts are not expected at enagagement parties - sure, I always give generously, but I in no way would expect others to do the same. Its their choice, and if they want to know where the registry is, they will ask, or the bridal party can spread the word.

Although we all have our own opinions, you are the final decision maker. I have made my decision and am quite happy with it. Now to plan the rest....

Good Luck on your planning!

I agree that this is a personal choice, one near and dear to me as our engagement party is in June and we finished our registry this weekend. I am putting regisrty cards in the invites. We are having a catered party (paid for by my parents) and at the risk of sounding greedy, I do expect gifts :). Many family members have asked where we are registered, so to make it easier on everyone we are putting in the cards. I would rather someone spend $19 on one plate that I like than $50 on yet another crystal bowl that I will later return. My 2 cents is if you think the person will be offended by you giving a registry card in the invite, then dont put it in their invitation...

Do you mind if I ask what you are writing in the registry cards? I haven't figured mine out yet.
thanks

I am registered at Macy's and Fortunoffs, so I went to them and got little cards that I will stick in the envelope along w. my invitation. They are both small cards saying that we have registered with the store. Actually, after all the wondering about whether or not I should put them in, they are so small that half the people will probably not even notice! :) Most places have them, I think its better than writing on the invite or by hand...

I plan on registering at both too. Perfect-thanks for the info! I have one less thing to be creative on!
