So.. i just got engaged Christmas Eve Eve lol. My mom and i are thinking about an engagement party and the easist thing would have been to have a bbq or something. Obviously that's not realistic in Dec. So i'm trying to think about something cheap, maybe renting out a vfw hall or nights of columbus. Has anyone done something similar?

Re: Engagement Party ideas??
you can definetly wait to have an engagement party for a few months if you want something outside. since your wedding is not until 2010. we got engaged in april and had out engagement party in august.

Re: Engagement Party ideas??
The guy who runs the entertainment company we hired said that you can get GREAT deals at catering halls in Jan/Feb. You can probably negotiate a low pp price at a RH or country club. Also, I'm not sure how many ppl you'd have, but many restaurants have party rooms to cater events. Some hotels have big rooms you can rent for a party space. If you want to keep it more casual, VWF or a Knights of Columbus is an idea too. I went to an E-Party that was in the basement of a church -- they brought in awesome Italian food, a friend DJ'ed with his ipod, and it was a LOT of fun.

Re: Engagement Party ideas??
Congrats on your engagement and Welcome!!
I would say wait a few months and have a BBQ outside when the weather gets warmer.
DH and I had our engagement party almost 2 years before our wedding and we had family calling us months after asking for wedding invites. If I were you, I'd wait until it's warmer out!

We had our engagement party in a Knights of Columbus... it was very cost effective and I think it was nice too.

if you really would like a bbq then you can wait a few months until it gets warmer out. You dont have to have an e-party RIGHT after you get engaged, many have it months later. The only rule is that its not less than a year before your wedding

Congrats on your Engagement! I think you can wait for your party and have the BBQ. I've been engaged over 1 year and still have not had one. (This is the 2nd time around for both of us though). I don't suggest waiting a year - but a few months should be fine.

Re: Engagement Party ideas??
i got engaged in april 2008 and we are having our engagement party in march 2009, we are doing a luncheon with our families (moms, dads, sister, bros, aunts, uncles, cousins, grandparents) on a saturday afternoon at an italian restaurant. i think it will be a nice way to have our immediate families meet. i also wanted to wait a little while before having the e-party since my wedding is not until june 2010

Re: Engagement Party ideas??
if i were you i would wait until the spring/summer when the weather is nice and you can have it either at someone's house, or at a local park. that's what we were going to do but didn't end up having an eparty! there are so many awesome parks- you just need a permit and you can have alcohol and caterers! fm me if you are interested!

Re: Engagement Party ideas??
we had ours at Martha Clara Vineyard in Riverhead, it was gorgeous, i don't recommend the place though the people are very unprofessional and a pain.....however during the winter I am sure other vineyards are more affordable and the scenery is still very nice.

I agree that you should wait if you want a BBQ. We got engaged in Nov and will be having a BBQ in June. I wanted a more laid back feel, and was also being cost conscience.

Re: Engagement Party ideas??
We got engaged in July and we're having an engagement dinner tonight actually... nothing crazy, but the immediate family (just parents, grandparents, siblings, close friends in the bridal party) are coming over and we're getting catered food and desserts and stuff, nothing crazy but nice to just celebrate and get the families together.
You can totally wait until you can have the time of year you want to celebrate how you want, there's no rush since you have time before the wedding, but just keep enough time between an engagement party and the shower.

Re: Engagement Party ideas??
I rented the Hibernian Hall in babylon for my eparty and it was great. It was relatively inexpensive and then I had the food catered, and DJ. I got favors and made the centerpieces myself. FM me for more info if you need it.
