Engagement Party Timing

How long did you wait to have your engagement party. my mom gives ms. manners a run for her money and keeps telling me the purpose of an engagement party is so imediate famliy and the bridal party can get aquainted and that if I don't do it soon I should have one because it is rude after a certain point.

I was thinking of doing it in January, is that to long?

Engagement Party Timing - Long Island Weddings

when did you get engaged? I don't think it's too long a friend of mine waited around 6 months. I'm having mine in November and we were engaged in July. Mine's going to be different though because it's just his family. Our families live in different states but my parents are coming up to go but other than that it's just his family. My family is throwing me a graduation party in May so I didn't want them to have to do both.

Engagement Party Timing - Long Island Weddings

We were engaged a year and half before we had our engagement party but that is because the date we set was so far in advanced we had all the time in the world really to do one we just had ours September 28th and I am getting married 1 year today. So we did it 1 yr out from the wedding.

Congradulations, it sounds like it will be wonderful!

We got engaged in September, so it would be 5 1/2 months.

Engagement Party Timing - Long Island Weddings

in my huge Italian family there is no such thing as immediate family only! honestly that's the first time I've heard of it being for that purpose abd that small. ive only been to one's where if your invited to the wedding your invited to the engagement party. which means another big expense, so we aren't having one.

Re: Engagement Party Timing

We had a small one with random family members and family friends in the end of August. We were engaged in early June. So a little over 2 months. We won't be having a big grand one.

Engagement Party Timing - Long Island Weddings

My mom felt the same way, that if we didn't have the Engagement party within a few months then it would be too late and 'rude'. It worked out that we got engaged in NOV, E-Party in Jan which left still left 18 months in between the E-party and the wedding I think its your call, but most peole would feel as long as its not E-party, Shower, and Wedding all with in one calender year, you're probably ok.

Re: Engagement Party Timing

We had our engagement party 6 months after we got engaged but I wanted one because I knew it would be a long engagement for us and I wanted to celebrate the occasion. If we were setting a date soon after our engagement, I would not have had an e-party.

My Mom bought some wedding etiquette book and is OBSESSED with not offending anyone, which can be nerve-wracking because some of the things are silly!

That being said she is awesome in so many other ways and she is genuinely trying to be considerate of our guests so I will survive.

We didn't have an engagement party, but I don't think your timing would be too late. If that's when you want to have it, you should!
