Engagement Party - Who do you invite?

Engagement Party - Who do you invite?

I am struggling with this a little. We are having a party at my house. It is going to be a bbq/luau type theme.

Who do you invite to the engagement party? I am thinking only the people on my A-list (close family and friends). My mom says that I need to invite people out of state, even know they are not going to come, because they may want to send a gift.

What do you girls think?

invite everyone you'd invite to the wedding.

let people make the decision to come or not.

We are inviting everyone on the guest list but calling those who are out of state to tell them about it :) we dont have that many OOt so it's not too big of a deal.

But if you have a(n) A B C... list then I would only invite those who are on A

I invited 80 people which I thought was way too much and was heavily edited.

FH family refused to not invite people out of state where I only invited family on the island because obviously out of state relatives were not coming.

It's really up to you. I recommend inviting the bridal party and close family and friends. But that's just me.

I struggled with this as well. I feel like I left out soo many people but honestly, if I invited everyone I wanted to it would be like having two weddings...

So we just invited the bridal party, family, and really close friends, and we still ended up with 60 people.

I am having my e party very soon - sending out the invites prob next week. We are estimating about 30 guests, only close friends, family and a few co-workers. No out of staters - I can invite them to the wedding.

I invited everyone that is invited to our wedding we had 200 people at the engagement party =) but we also had it at a hall if we were having it at my house I would just have invited family and close friends. I didnt do anything really fancy cause I didnt want to take away from the wedding

We are having the same problem. We don't have many OOT's, expecting 175 at our wedding, just waiting to move into our new house but figured we can hold about half at best! Don't want to hurt feelings

we invited family and wedding party only. We'll have another party later on with just friends.

Its nice to have the families get to know eachother.

We needed to limit the head count cause we both have gigantic families. So we just invited immediate family members and the only friend we had there were their of my best girl friend in the bridal party. Even limiting it we ended up inviting 120 people

I agree about only inviting the A list.

For my family, we invited based on geography, with a few exceptions so that people didn't feel left out (i.e. when cousins on LI have a sibling who's OOT). FH's family is all OOT so we didn't invite beyond aunts/uncles/grandparents. Most of them are unlikely to come and we didn't want it to seem like we were just soliciting gifts.

we are doing it in our backyard too. we only invited family and close friends, probably 30-40 people. Only out of staters we invited were those in the bridal party. I didn't want my eparty to be a mini wedding, I just wanted a small casual affair. Everyone else can just come to the wedding.

we invited only family and close friends- which came to about 150 invited. we did invite OOT family only (not OOT friends)- even though we knew they wouldn't be able to make it, but its nice to send an invitation.

My situation was sort of different because the e-party served as a shower from his side of the family. So, I guess I would invite the people who you would invite to the shower ofcourse including the men! lol!

If I had it MY way the engagement party wouldve just been the CLOSEST family and CLOSEST friends... instead we're inviting almost everyone thats invited to the wedding including OOT
