Engagement Party...to have or not to have???

My FI and I got engaged in November. I would love to have an engagement party when it is warm out (maybe May) and I can have it outside in my backyard. Is it tacky to wait so long or do I just suck it up and have it at a restaurant? or not at all??

I don't think there is ever a wrong time to have an engagement party, doesn't matter how long ago you got engaged, as long as it is not too close to the wedding.

We got engaged the day before Christmas Eve and decided that since both families come to about 75 people, we would wait to have ta BBQ type of Engagement Party. I think there is no reason to rush into one if it's not what you want.

I think you should have it when you want it!! It will be a lot easier to have an outside party, especially if you have a ton of people. We had over 100 and I was getting worried cause we just rented the hall, but it worked out so well. I don't think it's a big deal that you wait.. Being 07ers we have time to celebrate and enjoy our engagements to the fullest

I got engaged on 12/24 and our party will be in
April or May. My parents and many other relatives
live out of town and would need additional notice for them so accomodations can be made.

Totally think it is fine to wait. We got engaged in August, had one e-party in October (NY-family) and another in January (friends mainly in DC where we live)...and our engagement was only 11 months total!

We also got engaged in November and with all the holidays decided it was too hard to have an Engagement Party right away. So we are having ours May 5th......but its a cocktail party so people can mingle. We didn't want anything really fancy or formal....

i think having an engagement party is great!! i got engaged on christmas eve 2004, and had out engagement party in april...

Thanks ladies! You are all right and I decided I am going to have my engagement party whenever I feel like it!!
