Engagement Party...to have or not to have???

My FI and I got engaged in November. I would love to have an engagement party when it is warm out (maybe May) and I can have it outside in my backyard. Is it tacky to wait so long or do I just suck it up and have it at a restaurant? or not at all??

I dont think its too late to have it in May - if you think abt it - its ony 3 mths away - and if you were to go to a restaurant - you might have to wait until May anyway. have it in the backyard - the way you want it - and 3 mths gives you enough time to plan and make cute summery add-ons for your party!

We got engaged in Nov too, we were going to wait but we ask the same question so we are having it this month at the Irish coffee pub.

But if you guys want to wait I see no problem in that, just do what you have to do.

Best wishes

We got engaged in December and were having our e-party June 3rd because my FH's family is so large. We will have about 100 people present and we thought it would be best to have it outside. So, were having a LUAU in my aunts backyard who lives on the water. Im so excited! Anyway, just do what works for you.

do whatever makes you happy. you dont want to regret not having one in the future if you really want one. may is a good time.,

i say do whatever you want. friends of ours keep telling us we should have an engagement party--and we are approaching the 1 yr mark on our engagement. personally--we can't afford to have an e-party--but hey..if you wanna wait for the summer, go right ahead!!

people will ALWAYS have something to say no matter what

You can definitely wait until it gets warmer. It will still be a year before your wedding! I wouldn't worry about it at all. Sure, there could be some people who will wonder why it wasn't sooner, but waiting for warm weather is a great reason to wait!

I do not think it is tacky at all. You should do whatever makes you and FH happy!

You can wait until May and there is nothing tacky about something in the backyard.

i think you should have one. I also have a problem. I got engaged last March, almost a year ago and now my FI wants to have an Engagement Party. What does everyone think about me having one in March or so, a year after I got engaged?

We got engaged two weeks ago and we're planning one in March for friends in my apt in Brooklyn and another one for family/relatives out on LI in late April early May.

I guess we could have waited till its warmer, but we wanted to kick our engagement period off right.

My FH has a friend who got engaged the day after and their engagement party is first weekend of March.

I guess it all depends on the couple and scheduling. No worries

the reason that your having this party is to celebrate your engagment, why not have the party you desire?

We planned on having our e-party in my aunt's backyard, but, they remodeled the house this past summer & they're putting a pool in so we don't want to risk, the changes not being completed for our party....

We're back to square one.....

& having it at a restaurant
