Re: engagement ring
Diamonds International in the city is good. He could go look around in the diamond district in Manhattan. It is somewhere in the 40s on the west side.

Re: engagement ring
Mine is from Canada. Diamonds are apparently much cheaper there and Canada doesn't buy blood diamonds so if he wants to plan a trip to Montreal or Toronto with his friends, he can multi-task.

Re: engagement ring
FH got mine from the Karat Shop in Huntington. However I think the best place to get a ring from is Costco, everything is set in platinum, and the quality of the diamonds are fabulous. They have a larger variety online.

Re: engagement ring
DH got my diamond somewhere in NYC, in the diamond district. The setting was made by Rose Jewelers in Patchogue.
Mine is from blue nile and it's awesome, I ordered my matching wedding band through them too. they have a 30 day return policy no question ask if you are not happy with it...

FH got mine from Leder's Jewelers in Rockville Centre. His father uses them for all of his mother's jewelry too.

Re: engagement ring
We bought the setting from Michael C. Fina in Manhattan at 45th Street. Justin Stadler is an amazing sales guy there. We bought the diamond from the diamond district on 47th street (btw 5th & 6th Ave). You have to make sure you get a GIA certified stone (NOT EGL) and know exactly what you're looking for as far as cut, color, clarity & size (carat) so you can properly compare stones. Also take note of the polish, symmetry and proportion percentages. Those will all affect the sparkle of the diamond. By the time we'd picked my stone we knew A LOT. It's a lot of foot work, but you can get an amazing deal there if you do your homework and make sure to get a certified stone. ALSO, VERY IMPORTANT. Before you buy the stone make sure your brother has the jeweler bring it to an appraiser on the block and have it appraised in front of you. Justin @ Michael C. Fina actually helped us find an appraiser (and we didnt even get the stone from him). My FH went w/two separate jewelers to appraise the two stones he had narrowed it down to and chose from that (and we literally looked at over 200 stones by the time he'd decided). We also looked at several Fortunoffs (who were ridiculously overpriced for not even that nice of stones), other diamond centers throughout NJ, LI, etc. We REALLY searched a lot.
If you have any other questions, please feel free to FM me.

Re: engagement ring
Bluenile. com is comprehensive and they give you the GIA certification. If nothing else, the website gives a ton of information and he can educate himself on the process.
