its a pretty ring but you want to see it first before buying it i suggest you go to the diamond district they have good deals there!
I would just be careful with the diamond district because if you don't know exactly what you're looking for and what to look for, a lot them of are very quick to rip you off.

This is my concern as well. I'm trying to research the stuff now, so when we go there we can have some things to say and at least pretend we know what we're talking about.
yesterday when we went to Tri-County, we were sooo clueless.

Well let's see.....0.70 carats is a little less than a carat, so it's a nice size. Is that total weight or just the center stone?
E-color is wonderful if you're looking for a colorless diamond....it's near perfectly colorless. Mine is an H.
SI2- clarity - this is actually what mine is too (however, mine is a family heirloom and is bound to have flaws). SI2 means Slightly Included / flawed (two grades). Minute inclusions / flaws / belmishes are more easily detected under 10x magnification.
Here's a pic of my ring...which I love by the way. It's a marquis cut (so not princess) but it is a three-stone (marquis center stone with a baguette on either side, which are each G color and VS1clarity).
Beautiful! If you don't mind me asking, how many carats is that? the 0.70 is just the center stone. I think it was like 0.98 together.
I'm trying to educate myself with all these terms now because it's going to VERY easy to rip us off!
This is what I have got so far (let me know if i'm wrong!):
the cut is the most important. You don't want to sacrifice here. Color is the second most important. D is the best. e-f and g-h are near-colorless so they are still good. i-j are decent too.
Clarity is the least important. I'm not sure with this one. Should I try to find something that is vs1?
Thanks EVERYONE for the help!
Thanks You have FM.

Re: engagement ring HELP!
theyre all important hun!.. clarity was important to me. im blinddd yet u show me a diamond i could tell u where all the imperfections are. and the color. me personally, i didnt want any yellow. it really depends on what YOU want.
make sure its GIA certified, they are the toughest when grading.

Everyone is going to have an opinion here - and everyone is entitled. I think, IMO, unless you have an unlimited budget, you have to choose an area to sacrifice. SO, lets say you want a larger stone, you might sacrifice the clarity, which is what I did. My stone is SI2 (i think) and is so completely sparkly without andy visible flaws - I think a lot has to do with its colorlessness and cut. I think you have to decide for yourself which traits are most important to you and your fiance.

There is soooo much info online... as long as you remember that it's all 4 c's that count as far as grading you'll be fine...

Thanks for all the tips, girls. I know this is all personal preference; I just don't know exactly what I want. I guess we need to just look around more. After looking yesterday, I definitely know what I DON'T want. And I know I want princess so I guess that's a start!
I also love your rings. It helps looking at them to get ideas.

Re: engagement ring HELP!
FH and I did a lot of research before he purchased my diamond. I highly recommend visiting pricescope.com. We had no clue about diamonds either, but quickly learned through pricescope.com. That website has a forum where there is a TON of information regarding diamonds and people on there will even help you find a diamond if you ask. Of course they will help you find one that is through one of the online vendors. You should also visit goodoldgold.com. They have an actual store in Massapequa Park, but their website offers soooo many tutorials and videos that educate you about diamonds. I originally wanted FH to purchase my diamond through Good Old Gold (they are highly recommended on pricescope.com), but found that their prices were more expensive then some other places. We ended up going with Mark Turnowski from Engagement Rings Direct (in the diamond district). He is also HIGHLY recommended on pricescope.com and he was wonderful. He also has great prices!!!! Mark found the perfect diamond for us. He was a pleasure to work with and I'm sure you would love him!! FH got the setting from someone else, but Mark also creates custom settings if you are interested. FM me if you have any questions!
Below are pics of my E-ring. There are more pics in my album.
I posted photos of my ring on the x-post of this topic on the 2009 board but this one seems to be more active and I wanted to comment on something about the clarity.
We went through a diamond wholesaler and it was the best thing we did because we custom built the ring from setting to center stone to side stones and picked everything out and saved so much money it's sickening. When we were looking at center stones (certified) we looked at some that were SI1 and some that were SI2 and depending on where the inclusion was some were definitely more visible than others so when you're buying online, you aren't able to see it in person or to loop the diamond (with a little loop maginfying glass) FH picked out this big stupid 2 ct center stone and I looked at it and said 'it's a little black' and he said 'Nope it's an F' and I said 'No it's got like the United States of America ******* sitting in the stone' and he finally saw what I was looking at with an untrained eye. If an inclusion is closer to a corner you're not going to see it as much as if it's a big blob in the center of the stone and both might be SI2.

Re: engagement ring HELP!
i have been with my fiance for 12 years. so i used to always tease him and say a karat for every year since he made me wait so long. everyone has their own opinions and its a personal preference. to me i fell inlove with this particular setting that we both knew was the one.. instead of gettin it made cause it was soo detailed my fiance decided on gettin me the real deal.. and i could knock hm out for spending that much on a setting. but that was my personal preference. also what was important to him was clarity he wanted to get me a diamond that was colorless.. it was hard to find but he searched and searched and found one that he loved. so i scarificed a little on size but by all means the size he got me was plenty for me.. he did an amazing job and i absolutely loove my ring.. I must say u need to try on all different types to find out what looks best on your finger. thats how i knew and im glad we picked it out together!! although i didnt think he would get that ring he surprised me!!:) good luck in your search. heres a pic of my ring!

Re: engagement ring HELP!
I'd suggest going to stores to look / try on different styles. When FH and I first started looking, I wanted a cushion cut on a plain band, nothing with paves or extra sparklies, etc.
But, when I started trying things on, I completely changed my mind and ended up with lots of paves. Pics are in my album if you are interested.
Good luck!

Re: engagement ring HELP!
also be aware of 'spready' stones vs. 'chubby' stones. spready stones are really thin but they look bigger and chubby stones carry most of the carat weight on the bottom of the gem where you won't really see it. its best to try to get something that is mid way between a chubby and a spready. while a spready can look bigger, it might not sparkle as nicely, etc..

Re: engagement ring HELP!
if you really dont want/care about diamonds..i would go to jewelry stores and tell them you want a nice 'right hand' ring. this can mean anything, but it does not translate to diamond the way 'engagement' ring does.
for a while i was looking for a black diamond ring, so i did shopping in the 'right hand' ring sections alot...
