Engagement Ring Insurance

I have a beautiful engagement ring, but have not gotten any insurance on it as of yet, could someone please recommend a reasonable priced appraiser and an insurance company I could go with to obtain it. Or let me know if you think it's a waste of time.. Also, please give me prices you received for appraising your ring.

Re: Engagement Ring Insurance

Had mine appriased at a jeweler and rbought in the GIA cert. Also took out a rider on my dad's homeowner's insurance..was about $350.

it depends on the appraisal value of the ring, so yours could be a lot more or less!

ETA: My mother never had hers insured and she still has it over 30 years alter, but for me I feel better. I can travel with it, wear it places, and I have peace of mind! I would get so nervus about it befre. I mean, if you lost it, your FH is out thousands and it's not like we ahve the money to just go out and replace it. i think it's wroth it.

How much did you have to pay to get it appraised.

Re: Engagement Ring Insurance

Get insurance!!! Not only is it good if you lose the ring (heaven forbid) but also if you need to have work done on the ring. We used Jewelry Judge in Mineola/Garden City on Old Country Road. I think they charged $75. They were great, they took a picture of the ring, gave us a 'blueprint' of the diamond (so that if we were ever afraid someone switched my diamond, we'd be able to go to the blueprint), and all the documents we needed for the insurance company. They're very reputable--we used Deborah. She's actually testified as an expert in a number of trials (we're both lawyers, so we liked that )

I have an antique ring and the setting was actually starting to break a little (the ring is FH's great grandmothers from the 20's). I ended up needing $1400 of work done to 'restore' the ring. Guess what? Our insurance company, Travelers, reimbursed us for the FULL amount of the services. Obviously, I'm very pro-insurance

I think it was $50? It should be much more than that.

Re: Engagement Ring Insurance

My FH got my ring from Blue nile, they sent an appraisal for it. All i had to do was call the local State Farm agent, went in with my ring, and my appraisal. It only costs $175 a year, thats nothing compared to what I lose if god forbid i lose it!

Re: Engagement Ring Insurance

Jewlery Judge is great for appraisals!

Also... Chubb is an excellent company for E-Ring insurance. If you ever lose the ring... 9 times out of 10 they simply cut you a check for the appraisal value. No BS involved.

You usually pay a little extra for a Chubb plan though because its this good.

I can recommend a good broker that sells Chubb insurance if anyone is interested. My plan for $9000 worth of coverage comes out to about $275 a year (and I live in Queens).

FH has mine with Chubb also. They have a full replacement policy, meaning you can lose it in any way, get paid the total value and can go to any jeweler to purchase a new one. I didn't know there was a % rate, but calculating it, he does pay about 2.5% of the appraised value.

Re: Engagement Ring Insurance

I have insurance on my E ring. I have it through Chubb Insurance Co. It is about $350 per year. I couldn't do it under the homeowners because it only covered us under a certain amount.

I say go for it. Just incase...

I would be so devastated if anything ever happend to mine.

Re: Engagement Ring Insurance

Definitely get insurance!! Even if you never have to use it, just the sense of security is worth the while!!

Mine is under our homeowners insurance. I don't really remember how much it was.

We did the same thing. I had to get a separate appraisal though because the diamond is FH's grandmothers and well over 60 years old so there were no papers for it. If you need an appraisal, try the Jewelry Judge (I went to the one in Mineola).
