Hi. I'm curious to hear everyone's engagement stories. I got engaged on March 3, 2013 in Iguazu Falls, Brazil. One of the happiest day of my life!
My FH and I been wanting to plan a vacation somewhere but we didn't know where. At the end of Jan, I came across a sale on airfare, $800 nonstop from NYC to Brazil, so we jumped on it. We booked a 9 day trip. We stayed 1 night in Sao Paulo, 2 nights in Iguazu Falls, and 5 nights in Rio.
I'm fascinated by waterfalls. On March 3, 2014 we went to the Iguazu Falls. It was a very hot and kinda gloomy day. The views were still gorgeous. Towards the end walking around, he asked to sit down to take a break and look at the pictures we had been taken throughout the day. He placed the sim card from the camera into his smartphone and wanted to play some music while we looked at pictures. I didn't think anything at first. He played Bruno Mars 'Marry You', and I like that song so was jamming along to it. Then next song came on was Train 'Marry Me'. I had never heard of this song before but it sounded very nice, and then all of a sudden he got down on one knee with a ring pop and asked me to marry him. I thought it was a joke at first. I was like are you for reals..lol. He got a litle emotional with his speech and then I got emotional. It was simple yet so special. I was on cloud nine. I knew he was gong to propose one day, but didn't think it was going to be on this trip and thinking it was going to happen most likely during our one year anniversary in May. That was one of the most memorable and best vacation I have been on. I'm glad things happened the way they did and I haven't stopped smiling since! =)
FH Proposed on Nov 11th 2012, the Day after my birthday. He bought me a really nice camera for my birthday, and little did I know, told my sister to use the camera to secretly video tape him proposing, which he did infront of all my family as I was blowing out the candles of my cake at my moms house! It was a big surprise. And I'm happy it was with my family around.

My FH proposed on November 9 in Central Park- I thought I was going to lunch with my friend at the boathouse, but he was sitting in a gazebo by the lake near the boathouse- He hired a photographer to take 'paparazzi' pics of getting out the limo, walking over, and of the proposal. Then, we got to do a whole photo session with him in Central Park! :)
It was May 26, 2012. I walked into our apartment and the TV was on with a video montage of pictures of us along with our favorite love songs. There were rose petals, balloons, bouquet of my favorite flowers (daisies), champagne, champagne flutes, chocolate covered strawberries. I was in shock. I literally said 'what is going on?' I turn around and my now FH is on his knee! I immediately started crying and he said such beautiful words and asked me to marry him! Of course I said YES!! We later went out to celebrate at a lovely Italian restaurant. It was the happiest day of my life.

Engagement stories, how he proposed?
I knew FH was going to propose since we went ring shopping together and I picked out my ring but I just didn't know when it was coming. During the days leading up to it, he kept confusing me saying one day he had the ring, then the next saying he didn't get it yet. Every year a few days before Christmas, we always go out to dinner, just the two of us. He asked me where I wanted to go for our annual Christmas dinner and I chose the Melting Pot since that's where we go for every occasion. I made the reservations for December 23, 2011.
On the day of our engagement, he called me to let me know that he was running late because of traffic. I didn't think much of it. But actually, he was at my parents' business asking for their permission. He came and picked me up and we went to the Melting Pot. We got the greatest table ever. There was no one around us and we were sitting in front of a fireplace. We started talking about random things then he said he couldn't afford the ring that I had picked out since we were saving up for a house. Then he pulled out a Ring Pop and asked me if the Ring Pop was ok. I thought it was funny and so cute that he got me a Ring Pop. As I was opening the wrapper, he pulled out the real ring and proposed!!

FH proposed on 8/10/12. He proposed on the docks in port jeff- the same place we went on our first date & right where he asked me to be his girlfriend when we were 14!!! lol needless to say 9 years later almost- he was just as romantic! :) lol

Fh proposed on february 2nd at roseland ballroom because that's where we went for our second date(the boardwalk in staten islans where we went for our first date was detroyed by sandy) It was a flogging molly concert and he tried to get on stage but couldn't so he proposed right before the band went on stage.

I was surprised! I had told him by the end of 2012, and it was Oct when he proposed. I had told him it couldn't be my birthday or holiday My birthday is 10/11 my mom had thrown a small surprise party for me that night since I was 25. Something in the back of my mind made me think ok maybe he is not going to listen to me and do it with all our families there. But the night ended and nothing. We were leaving for disney on 10/13 so I thought maybe then but I didn't even think at this point he had asked my dad permission or went to my uncle about the ring (he was a diamond setter and still had a bunch of friends in the business). It was more hopeful thinking then a real suspicion it would be in Disney. Anyway the day after my birthday (friday) I was at work, excited for vacation the next day, and next thing I know its around 3pm and Michael came in to my job with his niece and popped the question! I was shocked! He even arranged an engagement dinner that night with both of our families. It was amazing! FH is not romantic AT ALL and he totally shocked me with an amazing surprise proposal!

He proposed on June 3, 2012. He suggested the night before that we go out to dinner as a family (him, my daughter, me, my mom and mom's boyfriend). I didn't think anything of it because we all go out to dinner pretty often. He told me to pick the restaurant so I suggested we go to Cabana at the Seaport by the water in Manhattan because it was supposed to be a beautiful Sunday. After dinner he suggested that we go to the park for a little bit. He loves parks so I just thought that's why he wanted to go. I must say I wasn't in the mood so I said I didn't want to go. We had just eaten, I was stuffed and I wanted to go home and relax since I worked the next day, but my mom and daughter both convinved me (they were in on the surprise). We ended up in Battery Park (beautiful for e-pics btw. It's where we took ours). We were walking around and there was a statue in the water that my mom wanted a picture of but her phone wasn't taking a good shot of it so she asked me to take it with my phone (that was to distract me) and when I turned around after taking the picture he was on one knee with the ring box in his hand! I swear I thought it was a joke at first. I thought that there was like a pair of earring in the box and that he was messing with me because I was completely clueless that it was going to happen so soon. We knew we would get married one day, but at that point we had only been together for 8 months so I thought it wasn't going to happen until at least our one year anniversary. It was so unexpected and that made it that much more special.

he took me out to montauk (which is where we ended up on our first date) and there was a meteor shower and we're on the ground watching the shooting stars and hes just talking and hes like 'yeah... it'll be cool because the geminid meteor shower is always around this time of year so when we get married on 12-13-14... theres going to be a meteor shower. and wouldn't it be cool to be able to say that theres a meteor shower on our wedding just like the night we got engaged??' And then he said 'soooo... I have this ring... do ya want it? Because it wont fit my finger'

This is what I wrote on our wedding website, and I won't be able to say it any better than this (sorry it's so long!):
The week before the proposal, Phil told Stacey his best friend, Matt's girlfriend had taken Matt to a dark dining restaurant, Dans Le Noir, for his birthday. Stacey had mentioned this restaurant back in February, and Phil showed little interest, so no plans were made to try it out. Phil made the reservation, something he usually lets Stacey handle, so she definitely thought it was weird, but since his Matt had gone there that week, Stacey figured Phil just wanted to make sure he got to go soon.
They got to the restaurant, and had to wait in the lighted lounge to be called in to their table. Phil got up, and while Stacey thought he was telling the Maitre D that they were there for their reservation, he actually told the Maitre D that he was planning a surprise for his girlfriend, let him in on the plan, and asked if he could pass along the message to their server.
Phil and Stacey had a wonderful experience at dinner, trying to decipher and identify all that they were eating along with their tablemates. After dinner was over, the server led the rest of the table out of the dining room, and Stacey started to panic. Why weren't they escorted out with the rest of their table? Were they going to be stuck there until the lights go on at the end of the night? How could the server have counted the number of people at the table wrong? Phil called the server over, and whispered something to him. While Stacey thought he was asking for them to be escorted out because Stacey was panicking a little bit, he was actually asking to be escorted to Stacey's side of the table. She heard him get up and start walking, and then realized he was right next to her. The server said 'Go for it man!', and Phil opened a box that had a little light built in, and a beautiful ring sitting in it, and got down on one knee. He asked Stacey to marry him, Stacey said yes, and they kissed while the server announced to the entire room of remaining diners that they had just gotten engaged!!!
(Oh, and Matt never went to this restaurant earlier that week. It was all part of the ruse!!)

FH & I have been together 2 1/2 years..I had absolutely no idea he was going to propose, I figured eventually it would happen but I wasn't in any hurry. He proposed on New Years, we had planned to do something since it was our first new years that he didn't have to work so we planned to go Roma View in Howard Beach with his brothers & partners, my mom & our close friends. He had asked my mom for my hand in marriage the day before and everyone knew what was going to happen but me LOL. Once it was 1 min to midnight, we all went to the front of the room and there was a huge flat screen TV next to the DJ booth and watched the countdown. Once midnight hit, I turned around and hugged my mom next to me, then my FSIL & after I started to look for my FH and couldn't find him LOL everyone was telling me to look down and I totally missed him on one knee with a little black box in his hand..it took me 1 minute to take it all in while everyone was cheering and clapping, then he got up and asked me the question..I said YES of course and then hugged everyone, while still being in shock at what just happend because he pulled it off so well! And have been on cloud 9 ever since

FH proposed in our home by the fireplace on 1/23/2013, a Wednesday night. I was in our bedroom about to get into the shower and heard screams coming from the living room. I ran to see what was wrong, and he was screaming that he burnt his hand making a fire. When I went over to check his hand, he had the ring on his pinky ;) shocked was an understatement!

FH proposed in Disney World on our second day there. We both woke up really early and he suggested we go out and watch the sunrise. We had been upgraded to the Beach and Yacht Club when we got there due to overcrowding and he said that watching the sunrise over Epcot would be beautiful. I was complaining that I was cold and that I wanted to make the first bus to animal kingdom and he told me to just wait a little while longer. He later told me that he wanted to wait because there were too many people on the bridge we were on and he was nervous. He got down on one knee and the last thing I remember hearing was something about me being the love of his life. I was so excited I put the ring on my own finger!
I knew it was coming but I didn't think he would do it then, I thought he was going to do it at the fireworks show. I wouldn't change a thing though!

Here's the video of our engagement in Alaska. In the video I was looking through a book he made me of pictures of us. At the end he had a picture of my mom standing with a 'Will' sign, his parents had 'you' my dad was holding 'Marry' and he was wearing a shirt in the last picture that said 'ME?' :)
