I'd actually prefer to write 'Jim and Joan Smith' but FMIL didn't give me any of the womens' first names so i had no choice.

I had lines on the cards so I actually wrote
Mr. James Smith
Mrs. Jane Smith
Table 1

I like when the women are recognized as their own person, call me a feminist, whatever... and it would have been really squeezed together if I did it all on the same line.

ETA - We also had a good number of unmarried couples so it worked out better this way for us.

i completely agree with this ... i HATE that women don't get recognized as people .... we're just the guy's property, almost ... drives me absolutely crazy!
