Let's say you find anywhere from $10 -$100 bill on the ground. Without you saying anything, you hear someone say they lost the money. Do you keep it? or give it to the person?

I give it to the person who lost it.

Depends. Did you find it on the street and then some stranger passing by who also saw it says it's their money? Or do you find it in the office, and a co-worker says they lost it? Makes a big difference.

Definitely give it back. I am a true believer in karma and would fear what would happen if I kept it!

I ask how much they lost and then ask them to identify the serial numbers on the specific bill that they 'alledgedly' lost.. hehe
i dunno to be honest.
might depend on the mood I'm in..

not on the street, in an office or dept store, no one else is around when you pick it up

To add to this....one time, not too long ago, JT was in a store and paid with a 50 dollar bill for somethign. The cashier was on her cell phone and accidentally put in that he paid with a 100 dollar bill. She gave him his change, but he did not realize how much she gave him until he was out in the parking lot. He decided to keep it! I made him feel so bad about keeping it, so I made him donate the money! I don't need that evil money coming back to haunt us!

then I'd give it back...not like I'm going to risk feeling guilty and like a bad person for only $10-$100

you'll still have the 'evil' money if JT decides to declare the donation on his taxes

i would probably give it back also..but as far as getting extra money back, it was that persons mistake and if i didnt realize until later on, I would keep it

There will be NO declaring of the evil money! We have enough working against us as it is!

That was nice of you guys, but I think it was totally the cashier's fault. If she hadn't been yapping she wouldn't have done it. Seems inappropriate to me to be on the cell when you're working.
I found $40 in a parking lot once (in five dollar bills). It was pouring and I looked around to see if anyone saw me. I felt like I was stealing, LOL. If someone had tried to claim it I don't know what I would have done.

Oh, don't get me wrong, JT was NOT for donating the money! He totally thought it was the cashier's fault....which it was....but you just can't chance these things!

If I heard someone say they lost it, I would def. give it back. Otherwise, I would just keep it. When I was 14, I found a one hundred dollar bill in the street. I was bike riding with my friend and suddenly this bill appeared. We spent it at the local carnival. LOL

Re: Ethical QOTD: You find money on the ground and...
my brother in law just found money last week- over $265 dollars on the street- a little ahead was two licenses- same name two different pictures- can we say fake id... he called information to try and get a phone # to call to return the licenses and money but the operator said there is no one by that name at that address... Shady again.. so then he kept it... hey he tried..
and i use to be a cashier/bartender dealing with a cash machine and made a mistake or two in my life. i was grateful when the honest people informed me of my mistake. you dont realize how much trouble you can get into when your cash drawer is short!!!!!! yes it was my fault by i still was so impressed when the person who i gave the extra money to did the right thing and told me...
