Etiquette question...
you have to but you don't HAVE to. just make sure you're ready to really say goodbye to this person because if you don't invite them now I'm sure it will end any friendliness left. although she seems jealous and not much like a 'friend' so I wouldn't send an invite.

I wouldn't invite her. Have you confronted her about it? Maybe it's jealousy or she thought she was being funny and others took it seriously? I'd like to think it was a misunderstanding, but girls (ESP ones who aren't engaged/married and are jealous of someone who is) can be extremely catty and hurtful when they want to be. I'd hear her out before you make a decision.
I did confront her...she stuck to her theory... Also, she's in her 60's...not a child and should know better..
If it will not hurt your position at work, do not invite this woman. She sounds like she is a meddling hateful know-it-all. At 60 years old she might even have her own health issues and she still doesn't believe you? I have a feeling this rumor-spreading is only the tip of the iceberg and clearly she believes she can make up anything she wants.

Etiquette aside, if someone is being a jerk to you, who cares that you sent them a save the date? They'd be off my invite list, for sure!
Exactly this!!

If she doesn't like you now who cares if she is mad she isn't at the wedding!I would rather have someone mad that they didn't gt invited and be able to enjoy my day than have the terd a the wedding making stupid uncomfortable situations for you.

Some people just cannot stand to see other people happy. I just feel sorry for people like that. I would just say, 'I dont want to cause you any discomfort by sending you an invitation in view of how you feel about my wedding, but will send good thoughts your way!' Totally take the high road.
