Every Day Plates?

Every Day Plates?

So another day of boredom...leads to second guessing my everyday plate pattern selection.

Currently we're registered for Mocha Java, which looks great in person, and is from a really good, durable brand (it's actually considered china), which is what actually sold FH on them, cuz God knows it wasn't the pattern.

But now I'm wondering if I might get sick of the design after a while, and saw the Chocolate Swirl pattern and thought these might be nice, because the pattern is more of an accent and not on the main dinner plate:

FH's thoughts on them were, not bad, I'd eat off them So clearly, I have to turn to you girls!

Mocha Java or Chocolate Swirl?

are they expensive? FH and i registered for one set of inexpensive and one set of expensive everydays. We are planning to open the inexpensive ones in our apt, and save the more expensive nicer ones for when we move into our first House. we also registered for fine china. Its an idea if u are interested! HTH!

The Mocha Java are actually the expensive ones...they are about $40 per setting, because it's considered everyday china, and are only sold individually. The Chocolate Swirl are sold in boxes of 4 settings, and are $80 for the four.

This is a really tough choice, I may just do both and see what happens! But I don't want to seem greedy, which is why I'm trying to get a general consensus.

what about registering for it, and then using ur gift cards or store credit from returning other things, and buy the chocolate swirl urselves? then u get points if the store does them, and if u change ur mind u can return them later on. Thats what we did with out inexpensive one. If u do that u ony need to spend 160 dollars, i def think its worth it. Or just buy that set without registring for it, and keep the others on the registry, u can always take them off later on!!!

good luck!

I think it depends on the overall theme of your place. The first ones are more fun and casual, the second ones feel more formal. Honestly, my FH would be like 'polka dot plates?!' but if I had my pick, I always opt for the dots.

I prefer the swirl...I don't think I could do the polka dots.

This is going to sound awful, but I'd go for the more expensive set. I have lived on my own FOREVER and I think I am on my 3rd set of dishes. Stuff happens to them and you honestly do get tired of looking at them every day. I think every day dishes last about 5 years before you can't stand them any more.

A couple of years from now are you going to want to spend a lot of money on your every day dishes or are you going to want to put that money towards other things: house, kids, whatever?

I'd go for the expensive stuff now while you'll get them as a gift. Like I said, I know it sounds awful, but I think it's practical. Trust me, I wish someone had bought me expensive dishes when I first moved out as a gift. Instead, I got them myself and ended up getting rid of them about 5 years later. Won't do that again.

Your fine china, however, is a different story - you'll have that the rest of your life.

Also which one can you see your future family eating off. I think the first set is more fun and I could see kids eating off them. The second ones to me say just us adults. Just my opinion though. Could be because my friend who swore off children registered for them.

I like the first ones. I think you get sick of the square plates and they also get dated a lot quicker, if you plan on keeping them a while.

But both are really nice. I went for plain white because we are planning on buying a house right away and FH will probably gut the whole thing and build from scratch so I have no idea what the decor will be.
